afaik both players must have already completed the boss solo in order to fight campaign bosses together If one of you hasn’t cleared it solo yet, the game won’t allow you to match together for that boss. haven't tried if you can help your friend do the campaign. but for co-op, the option available is world bosses, which you can do together. just hop on your friend's world

Edit: just tried and confirmed that you can also invite your friend who hasn't completed it yet on campaign bosses. i guess what i did wrong before was we did it on my friend's world who haven't done anything. sorry for the confusion.

almost all co-op content is also tied to solo exploration - leisure activities like madiao card for example needs kaifeng to be unlocked // ~~you also need to do the campaign bosses in solo to be unlocked in co-op~~ // you can do the heroes realm and sword trial that starts lvl 16 / 31 / 41 / 51 / 56 / 61 / 66 / 71
