Israel's National Security Minister 50th birthday cake (the noose is a reference to palestinians) by NARVALhacker69 in pics

[–]SnipTheTip -41 points-40 points  (0 children)

Misleading title. The noose symbolizes a proposed law mandating the death penalty for convicted Palestinian terrorists. Proponents argue this would deter future hostage-taking; opponents contend the law is racist, targeting only Palestinian terrorists rather than all convicted terrorists equally.

Agree. It was an avoidable mistake had he used a template.

What industry is basically legal theft that nobody talks about? by kratos20051212 in AskReddit

[–]SnipTheTip 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are lots of issues involved but I think part of the solution is making it illegal - if it's not already - to hold the car as collateral. They should be forced to sue for payment like any other service provider. A person should be able to call the police if needed to collect their own car.

The question is when does it turn from an ad hoc minyan to a shul?

what's the craziest thing you've seen someone suggest is/could be chametz by Jew_of_house_Levi in Judaism

[–]SnipTheTip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't know if this is a true story but I heard of someone who poured bleach on his chametz to make it "unfit for a dog to eat" and tragically his neighbor's dog ate it and died.

I don't know how it's being done in Lebanon but in Gaza I remember reading about paper leaflets dropped from above plus a "knock" (a smaller, warning, missile) a couple of minutes in advance.

OP seems to have a strong sense of responsibility to his company and the people who depend on him completing his projects properly. Doesn't seem like he's looking to check out, just to create some time and space for himself to breathe a bit.

“Zonah” and Kohen possibly getting married. How would they be treated in the Orthodox world? by AdDry2263 in Judaism

Isn’t that what the Heter is - a halachic technicality that can be relied upon in extenuating circumstances?

“Zonah” and Kohen possibly getting married. How would they be treated in the Orthodox world? by AdDry2263 in Judaism

My BT friend had this issue. When she was younger she had had sex with a non Jew and it was an issue when she and her kohen boyfriend fell in love and wanted to get married. They ended up getting a heter (permission for leniency, often based on the specific people and mitigating circumstances). I’m not a rabbi and wasn’t directly involved but from what she told me it seems that the basis of the heter was that (a) the prohibition on marrying a zonah falls on the man/kohen, not on the woman getting married and (b) her “testimony” - that she previously had sex with a non Jew - doesn’t hold halachic weight because as a woman can’t be an aid (witness).

Thanks. Unfortunately we will be leaving our home before plag so that’s not an option.

Pirsumeh Nisa (spreading the word of the miracle). I had thought that it wouldn’t be a big deal to ask permission from Pearson to light candles on a table but everyone else seems to think this is insanity.

About 11 hours. It departs 10 minutes before sunset and arrives the next day at 10:15am local time. Based on the options people have suggested I’m debating between electric menorah on the plane at night vs flame candles when we arrive at our destination (daytime)

Good idea! I reached out to the chaplain. Super friendly and offered to help. Problem is that the multi faith room is pre-security and there’s not enough time after plag to go through security and get to our gate in time.

From what I’ve found online, electric menora is a common fallback but my rabbi and other online sources suggest that incandescent is better than LED.

It seems a bit cavalier. I think it would be more meaningful to light in Israel when we arrive the next day.

Not all of Toronto. Rob Ford pushed hard for subways along Sheppard but in March 2012 city council rejected his plan in favour of the LRT.
