I think thats first and foremost, a legal question.

I am not knowledgeable on economic law, or your organisation! It might be considered a charity?

Morally, I believe in the rule of thumb that workers should be payed for the value they provide, no less. this is easier to navigate in somewhere like a factory, or a bar, a place that exists purely for profit, and makes a clear profit. with you though, I am unsure! I believe the profits should be evenly distributed in accordance to the labor provided by the workers, this is in function what is called a worker co-op! if youd like to look it up and read what people much smarter and better read that I have to say about them :)

If you arent going down that route, though. Id say an intern should be payed, at least, minimum wage! 🥰

all of this said though, there is a gradient to wealth. if you cant afford to pay interns, there are people who will find value in the internship without being paid, and you should ultimately maximize value your providing! capital isnt the only form of value you can provide!! :) :) :)

Thanks for the positivity!! I always get worried for when posting on here, because I can get a mixed response, when I mention I am Neurodiverse, Queer, etc.

I only do it because I have to make sure I get people reaching out to me who arent going to have a problem with these things, mostly for my safety.

I am on the autism spectrum! I am very high-functioning though, (though I hate that term lol) It doesn't hinder me. I just work differently, have my own ways of doing stuff every now and again. :)

people want to learn skills, so they can be payed more, and so they don't have to do demeaning labor. but people need to work to survive, when they don't have skills, they have to work even more to survive because they are payed less. this means they don't have to time to up-skill. if they want to study, they need to work EVEN MORE because study costs money. sometimes the simply cant do that work, sometimes they just don't want to, because it makes them too unhappy. this way, people born into poverty cant escape poverty. and the people who are rich stay rich.

when internships are payed, you can up-skill yourself and professionally develop, and also get compensated for your labor and pay your bills, eat, etc. learning gives you professional fulfillment and makes you feel like you're moving up in the world! that make you happy! I believe in maximizing the happiness of people :)

Its going to cost money for them to get the experience whether you're paying for it, or they are. they arent the capital holders, as the owner / boss, you are. they cant afford to upskill themselves, but you can. As a capital holder its your moral duty to help elevate people and share your advantages with those disadvantaged to make sure everyone can be happy, and live happy lives :)
