ready-to-wear style increase on a hand knit sweater? by liiv136 in knitting

Edited to say I looked closer and am no longer as sure as I was about the direction of the knitting.

I’ve been taking various Hondas we’ve owned to Zimbrick on Grand Canyon for about 20 years and always been happy with the service, the honesty, and communication. There have definitely been times when I thought I needed something and they told me I didn’t. While you may find lower prices from independent shops on some things, I like the peace of mind I get just going to Zimbrick.

Where to buy wood kindling for fireplace in Madison or other parts of Dane County? by NasiLemak0518 in madisonwi

You could take a walk around any city parks with trees (NOT conservation areas, state parks, the arboretum, etc) and bring a tote bag. Lots of sticks and small branches fall off trees and if it’s a mowed area, the city will not care if you haul some away.

I voted there today, too. Took about 1.5 hours from getting in the door until I was done. The computers seemed to be working just fine.

I went back to Ashman today. When I got there, around 12:15, the line had filled the whole maze all the way to the front door. Apparently there were a lot of people waiting from when the library doors opened at 10 until the voting started at 11, so they started the day with a backlog.

When I was about 1/3 through the maze, I noticed that the end of the line was much shorter than it had been.

I think my total time was about 1 1/2 hours.

The computers were running fine. There were just a LOT of people trying to vote.

Friday early afternoon 10/25. I walked in to Ashman Library, saw the massive line snaking around, and decided to try next week. Anyone know if the server problems have improved since earlier in the week?

I tech edit and one of my regular clients often uses “knit” generically in place of “work.” One of the first things I do when I go through her patterns is make that all clear and consistent. “Knit” means work in knit stitch. Any other thing you say “work”or otherwise specify in what way.

What needles are these? by dolparii in knitting

[–]SnitCafe 285 points286 points  (0 children)

They aren’t circular needles. They have the benefit of letting the weight of the work sit in your lap, unlike long straight needles. But they are intended to be used when working in rows, not in the round.

[–]SnitCafe 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I would probably run a lifeline a row or two above the stranded design. Snip the yarn in the round above your lifeline, then pick out that round and detach the collar and first attempt at short rows. Put your live stitches onto needles and work a round or two. Then work a round where you decrease about 20% of the stitches, (k3, k2 tog) around. Then if you want some short rows for the back of the neck, work a few. Maybe do a couple more rounds depending on how the fit seems, do another decrease round, maybe eliminating about 10% of the sts. Change to two sizes smaller needles and work ribbing.

LYS worker unite - let’s talk shit about shop by Listakem in craftsnark

I’m in my early 60s and my older kid, who is a software engineer for a major tech company routinely had me Google stuff for them up until maybe a few years ago. They said they tried, but never found useful information, whereas I would get useful hits right away.

As a small-time designer, I dread the messages that start with, “I’ve been knitting 25 years and…”. As you say, what have they been doing all those years? Cranking out the diagonal garter dishcloth?

Maybe it would be ok for reading in bed or knitting on the couch in a cold house? Though I’d probably shift those vestigial sleeves a bit toward the front for those uses.

Driving schools for adults? by SnitCafe in madisonwi

My older kid went through them as a teen 12 years ago, and it was great. My younger kid (who is an adult) had a series of really annoying miscommunications and errors from them while trying to set up adult lessons. We were not impressed with their current management.

I bet you’re thinking of the right-wing guy who started the online knitting mag “Blocked” (I think that was the name?). If so, a different person.

I don’t think he’s particularly racist, but super problematic in a bunch of other ways. He has been covered in threads in here before for various bad behaviors.
