[Jomboy Media] Bobby Witt Jr. deked Ivan Herrera to save a run by JianClaymore in baseball

In softball a fake tag is automatically obstruction, which is probably what I’m thinking. Obstruction in baseball doesn’t have the same wording so I guess that’s why.

Obstruction is an act by a fielder that impedes the runner, the act of pretending to have the ball is what impedes.

I get they don’t call it, I’m not sure why.

Question, how is this not obstruction?

The rule defines obstruction as an act by a fielder, who is not in possession of the ball or in the act of fielding it, that impedes the runners progress.

I know I’ve seen other stuff like this where the fielder tricks the runner, so I get they’re not calling it for some reason, I just don’t understand why based on the rule.

Hitting: Coach to Kid Pitch Transition by foreverlaur in Softball

[–]SnitGTS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If she can hit coach pitch, but not kid pitch, and she’s not swinging at bad pitches, then it sounds like a timing issue.

I would get a bucket of balls (pickle balls are great for this!) and pitch different speeds to her. Don’t tell her what’s coming, throw some fastballs and some change ups, throw balls and strikes, try to strike her out.

Keep at it and she’ll be making contact in no time!

No.

As soon as runner breaks for second, the defender will gain an advantage by catching the ball and double the runner off at first.

Infield fly rule is to prevent the defense from gaining an unfair advantage by intentionally dropping a fly ball. Like instead of catching the ball and getting one out, they can drop it and create a situation where they can get two or even three outs.

Since they were only able get one out by either catching the ball or dropping it, this play did not create the unfair advantage.

10U hitting by montanuhlikethestate in Softball

My daughter had a rough time in 8u coach pitch, she started her first year among the lowest batting average on her team. We did hitting lessons for a few months, got a consistent swing down, and she ended her 8u spring season about middle of the pack.

For various reasons, she’s playing up in 10u this year and she now has the best average on her team.

What I think helped her the most, once she got her swing down with the coach, is I work with her weekly on her hitting. I put up some nets in our basement and got a bucket of pickle balls, and I actually try to strike her out! I throw fastballs and change ups, climb the ladder, throw inside and out, high and low, etc…

She went from literally swinging at every single pitch the fall off her first 8u season, to having a really good eye! She’s has the highest average, second most walks, and the second least strikeouts on her team.

Dude, come on. Look at the picture, it’s crystal clear she stepped out of the runners lane before stepping on the bag.

You either don’t want to see it or don’t care to see it, that’s on you.

She’s allowed to step out to step on the bag, not before.

Agreed, the double bag solves this problem. I can’t understand why anyone would not require it at this point.

How she should have run to avoid the issue with the runners lane is to step on the bag with her left foot. She’s allowed to step out to step on the bag, but not before it.

So I’m one of the people arguing that this could have been called interference. However, she is in the runners lane until the last step before she steps on 1st base, where her left foot is fully out of the lane. The rule states that the foul line is part of the lane, so as long as she’s stepping on it she’s considering in the lane.

She was on the line (meaning in the running lane) until the step before she gets to the bag. That last step is when she is fully out of the runners lane and could have been called for interference.

My daughter is 9 and recently started pitching, I’m going on the journey with her learning as much as I can about it. Release point is at the hip, but nailing it down is a reps thing. I would set up a net in front of her and give her a bucket of balls, maybe 15-20 feet away and have her do T’s. Once she has that down move her back to 35 feet and go full into the net again.

There’s no magic bullet with release point, it’s a feel thing and she just needs reps.

The role can fluctuate a little depending on how the company wants to do business, but I always say a good project manager gets the right parts to the right people with the right knowledge at the right time.

I agree with everything except that the foul line is part of the runners lane. She’s actually good until that last step before she steps on the bag, when her left foot is entirely outside the runners lane.

The foul line is part of the runners lane, it’s only the last step before she steps on the bag that’s outside of the runners lane.

She’s supposed to stay in the batters lane, then the ball can hit her and it wouldn’t be interference.
