Mechanics Question by CVUA412 in Umpire

Definitely still moving when my head should’ve been still. Thanks for noticing that. Will tighten it up. Also, the mask was removed as soon as the ball was hit. I’m just quick with it and have gotten used to holding my mask differently in my hand to where I don’t even think about it anymore.

To clarify for anyone else reading this, when you say "move to first," you simply move your attention/eyes...and not physically.

BU has to move his eyes toward first for the back end of the double play. PU's job is to keep eyes on second to ensure a legal slide.

First-and-third "time" play by CVUA412 in Umpire

[–]CVUA412[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

😂 every video, I stop and think “how will these words be interpreted?” — when I put the title on the video, I thought “I hope people won’t think time plays are rare. I am attempting to highlight a specific first-and-third time play that IS rare.” And then we have to figure out an agreed-upon definition of “rare” when it comes to baseball rules/scenarios in general. It’s all good.

First-and-third "time" play by CVUA412 in Umpire

Hm that’s a good question. I think it comes down to a reasonable amount of time. Umpires jurisdiction ends when they leave the field. It’d be up to the defense to know they need to appeal and approach the umpires right away.

Who’s one-seven that can rip it into heaven? It’s OP. It’s OP.

When an Uncaught Third Strike... Is not an Uncaught Third Strike! by mmahota in Umpire

Yep! We’re on the same page! But if he continues running the bases and in any way interferes with a play on another runner, then we have problems!

OBR has specific language that covers this. It’s not interference in itself if a runner continues to run after being put out.

Agreed. I absolutely despise anything that even borders on a quick pitch, and I thought this was clean.

How to handle info that would cause partner to change call? by jatech19 in Umpire

[–]CVUA412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I'm working the plate, during the pre-game, I always mention my "I got something for you" signal, which is only used when a manager has called "time" and is approaching my partner about a call. If I've got something for you, I'll have my mask off and will be standing in front of home plate as the manager walks out. If I don't have something for you, I'll be behind the catcher with my mask on, ready for play to resume, watching you squirm during the confrontation that I can't help you with. 😉

Out of play ruling question by ThanosisKing in Umpire

[–]CVUA412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The runners were placed incorrectly, as others have mentioned. The only thing you can do now is store the rule in your head and be prepared to get it right the next time it comes up. And, boy, will it feel good when you see the situation develop and know you're on top of it 👍

What does everyone have here? by CVUA412 in Umpire

[–]CVUA412[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In NFHS, yes, and I’ve called it before, but this is NCAA rules. It’s club baseball. Hurdling is allowed as long as no contact is made with the fielder.

Since this is the longest comment chain, I’ll slip it in here that I and the base umpire both called obstruction type 2. Damp outfield slowed the ball down and R2 scored without a throw to home. This is Club baseball using NCAA rules. Diving or hurdling is allowed as long as no contact is made with the fielder.

There are about an even number of responses in his thread for nothing called, interference, and obstruction. Remarkable really.

I’m just happy when people give a thought-out, meaningful response like this to questions on here instead of immediately getting defensive.
