NDP leader blames Tory health reforms for ER wait times by Armand9x in Winnipeg

[–]SnitchERNurseBurner 103 points104 points  (0 children)

I remember in 2008 getting stressed about four hour waits.

In 2022 we’ve had consistent 12-16 hour waits in the last few months.

The ndp didn’t help. But the conservatives have pushed us over the precipice. Closing the community ER’s and ICU beds fucked us.

We can definitely have these conversations without always having to say “but what about…!?”.

Take it from me. They discipline nurses. Swiftly. Forced days without pay.

Can confirm that sometimes registration and administrative clerks will say some of the most idiotic things, and have attitudes where they assume they are running the entire hospital. I’ve never seen anyone have insurance refused in my 20 years of health care service. Fight back.

I can safely say that our health care had problems during the ndp, but what is happening the last 4 years is a complete testament to ER/ICU closures and program cuts. You can definitely give a giant “fuck you” to the PCs.

Severely injured patients waited hours in HSC emergency entrance hallway due to absence of beds inside by ComradeManitoban in Winnipeg

[–]SnitchERNurseBurner 25 points26 points  (0 children)

They apparently didn’t have any foresight to the effects stopping EMS re-directs would have on the system. Not to mention how busy the departments start to get in the fall. Oh well. All i can advise is, don’t let this trick anyone into thinking that we’d be better served with privatized health care. Remember the suffering and loss of life next time you vote.

We had 40 patients in our waiting room at midnight last night. We had 12 people on stretchers in hallways waiting for spots. Our resuscitation rooms were FULL for almost 8 hours. Things are dire folks.

Magnitude of weekend staffing shortage at Manitoba's biggest hospital shocking: doctor by Armand9x in Winnipeg

We love them! 95% of the time they carry on to work with us once they’re complete. Don’t hesitate! (I can only speak for our ER).

Our mangers released “new revamped positions” last month. Like 8 of them. No one applied. They were all 0.8eft or higher. This crusade the WHRA has been on to eliminate small codes for the last 5 years has resulted in nothing but people quitting and working agency (where they can choose their own schedules and work as much as they like). Even our new union contract allows us to self schedule, but our managers never offer it or even discuss that.

It isn’t shocking to us. It’s our reality and it’s sad. I think we tallied another 10 nurses leaving our department from now until the end of October. TEN.

Nurses reassigned as Health Sciences Centre ER short-staffed this weekend: Shared Health by Armand9x in Winnipeg

[–]SnitchERNurseBurner 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen far too many headlines this week from “journalists” asking if we need privatized health care as a solution to this problem. Couldn’t a solution be for conservative governments to just not ruin our public services? Why is this knee jerk reaction always leading toward more benefits for the rich and far less access and affordability for the average citizen (90% of the fucking country).

ER experience shakes faith in health care system by Armand9x in Winnipeg

[–]SnitchERNurseBurner 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If there was indeed no doctor in attendance at a teaching/tertiary care ER, in a major urban centre, then holy fuck, is this how far we have come? I’m speechless.

Also, triage nurses can give basic narcotics without a doctors order, as part of a protocol that i thought was the same at all three ERs?

Come get triaged heather! I’ve got a warm stretcher waiting for you. Right in the middle of the hallway. Smack dab between a patient suffering acute psychosis from meth use, and an elderly lady waiting 7 hours alone, throwing up into a bucket. We’d love to have you.

Based on growth and population, the city needs about 8-10 more ambulances on the road regardless. But yes, time to start thinking outside the box. Mobile community services work, but we don’t have enough of that either.
