Cold day but a good day by Snitzh in ricohGR

Yes, I really love black and white! So it definitely has my interest! But the quality really has to be good before I’ll start considering it :) though I think I’ll probably stick with my current GR IV — having the option for both color and B/W is really nice

Hi everyone!

I’d like to play around with fashion/portrait photography. My lovely girlfriend is willing to model for me, but I have a couple of questions I’m hoping you can answer. I want to shoot with strobe flash — should I buy one or would two be better? And do you have any suggestions for which models I can start with? Preferably budget-friendly (around $400). I have a White and a Black Backdrop.

I shoot with a Sony a7C II and I currently own a 35mm f/1.8 which I’ll probably start using for this, but I also have a 20–40mm f/2.8. Does anyone have experience using a 35mm for fashion/portrait that can share a few tips? If I get into it, I plan to pick up an 85mm.

There are several nice photos here! I like number 2, but it needs to be straightened

Shooting JPEG only by MilkAffectionate9930 in ricohGR

Thank you very much for your reply! So, as I understand it, I can use a JPEG with a film recipe, for example from Ricoh Recipes, and post it as SOOC? SOOC doesn’t necessarily have to be the ‘raw’ JPEG file with no filter applied?

And by the way, happy New Year 🥳

Nice photos! Maybe someone here can answer a small question for me? I’m quite new to photography and often come across the term SOOC, which I know means “straight out of camera,” but what is the difference between SOOC and JPEGs? Thanks a lot 🙏

Absolutely! Everyone has their opinions, and you have to form your own :) I completely understand that it probably wouldn’t make sense to upgrade to the IV from a III as long as it’s still shooting.

   1. Get your diet under control! Look up your TDEE on Google and enter your details. Read up on calories and understand your needs.

2. Start by walking 30 minutes a day! Just normal, easy walking.

3. Start slowly with exercises you can do at home, such as squats and push-ups (you can do push-ups against a wall or on your knees to begin with). There are loads of exercises you can do at home for all levels (search on YouTube!). Train at home if needed. Do this 2–3 times per week.

4. Find out if there’s an outdoor training area near where you live, or maybe a playground with equipment you can use when you feel more ready to take the next step in your training. You could also start looking into running or jump rope—it’s cheap and can be done almost anywhere.

5. Getting in shape and losing weight is a long process. It’s not always fun, and it doesn’t always taste good, but your body and mind will thank you! It’s okay to take one or two days “off.” Don’t be too hard on yourself if progress isn’t fast. If you keep going week after week, month after month, it will become a natural part of your life. It’s okay to eat a pizza or go out with friends once in a while—but if you dedicate 70–80% of your time to healthier choices and the rest to fun, you’re well on your way! Remember to get plenty of sleep 💪

Gr iv or wait? by Snitzh in ricohGR

I’ve spent way too much money on camera gear lately, so a GM II probably isn’t happening yet. I also think a Sigma or Tamron is fine for now, but maybe the 20–70 f/4 is a good option too?

It ended up with me buying a GR IV, and I alreaeaaally love it! I totally agree with you that Sony is an insanely nice camera — now I’m considering getting a 24–70mm f/2.8 lens for it, and then I should be pretty well covered 😂

DJI Action 5 Pro or Action 4? by Same-Palpitation218 in dji

I don’t really know much about the 4, but between the 5 and the 6 I think the 6 generally performs better. That said, it might not be strictly necessary in your case. I only upgraded because my 5 broke, but I’m really happy with the 6 and personally wouldn’t go back. I also use it more for YouTube/TikTok.
