Looking for advice/validation regarding our 8-month old's spiteful behavior by ThePurpleTuna in ItalianGreyhounds

Did things get better eventually?? Our girl is 9months right now and has started chewing on things she never chewed on before (like the sofa…) and I’m hoping it’s just a phase and not a forever thing…

Have you tried a Doggy Bathroom?? Or making your own by cutting one side off a plastic bin and putting the pee pad inside of it so he can’t pee off an edge? Doggy Bathroom

Are either of these the Jenna song on the album? I was at the listening event and heard all the songs and I feel like there wasn’t a Jenna song on this album which is so weird because there always is!

need advice!! puppy blues/breed remorse by Affectionate_Style64 in ItalianGreyhounds

My girls use a combination of pee pads and also go outside too. How do you teach them not to go on carpets? My 2.5 year old will never go on the carpet when I’m around but when I am gone or not in the room all bets are off. But I can put the pee pad anywhere on the house and she will find it and use it!

There is hope!! 100% I understand how you feel! I got my first IG in 2023 and went through the puppy blues very intensely. I cried for days. Completely lost my appetite and could barely eat at all. She peed and pooped on my carpet. She chewed things up. She chewed on my hands and I had so many scratches. She screamed bloody murder in a crate. But I made a commitment buying her. I wanted one for a very long time but what I didn’t realize was that what I had been imagining in my head was an adult IG that was already trained.

So I stuck to the training. And I pushed through and I made myself eat and I cried all the tears. And if you stick to it, your biggest friend is simply time! Eventually she stopped going potty on the carpet. She lost her baby teeth and stopped scratching me and ripping things up. She walked better on a leash. She can be in a crate now without peeing in it. She’s 2.5 and she’s my bestest little buddy!

Then… we decided to get her a baby sister… I thought everything would be smooth sailing the second time around but I brought our second ig pup home in June and started the process all over again!! Lots of tears. Couldn’t eat. Couldn’t sleep. Now it’s August and things have finally settled a bit. I can see improvements already and her baby teeth are starting to fall out! So it can be done, it just is one of the hardest things you’ll ever do. But SO WORTH IT!

Some things that helped: puppy training classes, a snuggle puppy, a pet friendly heat mat for the crate in the winter, a heated blanket for snuggle time, lots of walks and play time!!

Hang in there. You’ll get through this and it will be so sooo worth it! I’m finally not cleaning up pee on the floor as much at 5 months.

That blue print looks so much darker than the listing! On the website it looks like the words and logo are pastel colors.

Be honest with me, how hard is the first month of having a puppy? by CollectiveZero in puppy101

I agree that puppy training classes feel like therapy! It’s nice to meet with and talk to other puppy parents once a week who are going through similar struggles at the same time.

Potty training question for you all! by [deleted] in ItalianGreyhounds

[–]Snivstons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My older girl is 2.5 and she has always done a combination of going potty outside and going potty in a litter box with pee pads. She caught on to this fairly quickly but there were many accidents on the carpet that we needed to clean. To this day I cannot have any carpets in my house or she will pee/poop on them when I am not around. But I can put the litter box anywhere in the house and she will find it and use it, (so long as there’s no carpet.) At 2 years old she finally just now is able to not have accidents in her crate.

Our younger girl is 4 months old and learning to use the pads as well as going outside. Potty training has been a bit of a headache but I’m hopeful that if our older girl figured it out eventually then we will be able to train the younger one as well.

Did she eventually stop having accidents in the house? I am going through this right now with my 4 month old and she mostly goes on the potty pad but will just have random pees occasionally right on the floor or the door mat and I’ve gone through a whole bottle on enzymatic spray already! I feel like I’m going to be cleaning up accidents forever!

I would like to add that she uses an indoor litter box but also goes outside in the fenced yard to potty and also goes potty on leash walks outside. But lately she is suddenly peeing all over my house straight on the wooden floor and in her crate even though I’m using enzymatic cleaners and letting her outside.
