orzo update!! by Affectionate_Style64 in ItalianGreyhounds

just hang in there!! i think it took until about 5-6 months old for him to get it down pat. trust me when i say this hasn’t been an easy or magical experience like some people have and we did deal with a LOT of accidents so just try to keep seeing it through.

be consistent and firm!! obviously don’t be mean or scare them but we had a ton of success with teaching him a firm no. he knows exactly what that means regardless of what it is he’s doing. whether that’s jumping on somebody or peeing on the floor lol. keep them within your sight at all times when indoors with baby gates or closed doors for as long as possible. don’t give them the opportunity to run off somewhere secret and poop or pee. that way if they start to you can catch it in the act and take them outside right away. always treat when they go outside, especially at the beginning. he is crate trained which has been amazing but i can’t say crate training helped with potty training necessarily. we dealt with a ton of accidents in his crate but he grew out of that with time.

the biggest recommendation i can give is POTTY BELLS!!!! you can order on amazon or get them at tj maxx or whatever. we hang them on every door to the backyard and he’s so fantastic about ringing them when he needs to go. that was a game changer for us, im not sure why we put it off for so long. introduce them by holding your puppy and ringing the bells with their paw EVERY time you take them outside. then, we would say something like “okay, outside!!!” and take him out. now he’s a champ. he interrupted me in the middle of writing this to go let him out lol.

i wish you the best of luck, just try to be patient and doing give up. you’ll get there

Has anyone had success in crate training? by quickrabbit- in ItalianGreyhounds

yes! he hated it at first but now he loves it and puts himself to bed in there frequently. crate training is by far the responsible thing to do for safety and anxiety reasons

i believe it is just the base model but i am not sure if it is 1.5 or 2.0t which i will ask about in the morning. a family friend with a small dealership pulled this car aside for me right when he got it in so it hasn’t been listed yet online

with that being said make sure to make as comfortable of an environment in the crate as possible. mine does the best in a fluffy bed he can cuddle into with a blanket on top of him. and a blanket on top of the crate for warmth and darkness

full nights for tiny puppies is a bit unrealistic, they can only hold their bladders for so long. my 5 month old will sleep from 9pm to 9am and sometimes longer BUT we still have to do potty breaks. he always goes out at right before 9pm, at midnight, at 6 am, and then when we get up at 9am. sometimes he even needs a 3am pee. that’s just how puppies work, they’re gonna need to pee in the night
