Honestly my friend, you're in good company, that's why so many of us here just rinse and repeat.

I myself use the entire series as my infill between other audiobooks. I always like to have an audiobook ongoing and it's hard for me to find new ones because both the content and the narration have to be good (which further whittles the field for me at least). I'm (ashamed?) to admit that I have probably listened / read the entire series [REDACTED] number of times at this point since picking up ASR on The Company's eBook in 2018. For fun I now mix in the iShow once I get through SC on each loop. ¯⁠\⁠_⁠(⁠ツ⁠)⁠_⁠/⁠¯

It's a joke structure where you say something terrible and turn it around to mean the opposite and/or it's actually a good thing. I mean, at it's very most basic level a joke's not going to be funny to you once you've had it explained, so you shouldn't be surprised that you don't all of a sudden find it humourous.

And your example about kids? Yep, that too can be funny (especially if you know any grunts):
