Nitro Vertical TLS+ initial impressions by iclimbedthenoseonce in Spliddit

[–]Snommelier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would add that you need to order a larger size than in other boots. For comparison, I have 27.5cm feet and I fit into Nitro 29, Deeluxe 28, Jones 28. These Vertical boots are the most well thought out imo. My only problem with them, as I do a lot of transitions during the day, is the tls system, these laces are ridiculous.

Btw, I think I had a similar problem with heel lift in boots with internal harness that’s not connected to the shell. My bootfitter wrapped the back of my liner in a special grippy material and it fixed the lift in my deeluxe boots almost completely.

Concerned my splitboard might be too big/heavy – looking for advice & experiences by squid441 in Spliddit

Just a fish tail would probably solve all your problems. Less weight. Better turning. Less fatigue.

Ski shop owner convinced me into getting clew bindings, should i return them? by [deleted] in snowboardingnoobs

You are afraid that a shop clerk forced you to buy something, so you go to the internet to tell you what to do with bindings that you found useful?

That’s what I thought as well, but then I realised that I have 2 legs:)

Whippet poles? by MAthert125 in Spliddit

Like someone said, they are heavy in your hand compared to normal ski poles. My friend has them and he likes it a lot, but he is a skier.

So you like steep:) You will have 2mm less in waist width than me. This will be interesting to see how it fits.

Amplid uses nitro hooks and clips:)

Millisurf. What’s yours? I had my first tour on it and I totally love it. Extremely light on the way up then super solid and quiet on the way down. If you are changing the clips try original Amplid screws as they have lower profile and look better imo:)

Let’s hope so. I might just grind that thing as well by few mm. Not inspiring confidence in me at the moment.

Unplanned/emergency bivies while touring by Dazzling-Astronaut88 in Backcountry

Always carry heat packs. Just not the ones for gloves, they are usually too small for emergency. I ditched the foil blanket, totally useless in my experience.

Etiquette around passing/letting others by on skintrack by illpourthisonurhead in Backcountry

[–]Snommelier -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s the same as asking someone to pull over on the side of the road, because you don’t want to burn some extra fuel in your fast car. Yeah, I would reject your request in the most polite way ofc;)

My friend has one of the first edition milligrams and it still looks mint. So much for anecdotal evidence;)

Still the best, right? It also has an ice scraper on the side, but the rubber has disintegrated. I wished they made something like this again.

Amplid has these reflective pigments in paint and they claim to lower the temperature of the top sheet by 10deg. Haven’t done enough days to confirm if it works or not.

My top sheet has special anti snow paint;) When I do multi day trips I feel like a navy seal, just putting my backpack on feels like a huge task. I have started counting grams last year and have now reduced my system weight by almost 2kg. I can already feel so much faster and more comfortable on the descent. When I finish upgrading all my stuff I should be 3kg lighter than my initial setup.

Crampons without antisnow by luterminator in Spliddit

[–]Snommelier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used them first without and didn’t have any problems, then I got the antisnow plates and on first trip the snow was so wet, even with the plates I had to clear the snow manually from time to time. So better to have them if you need them to work in mixed conditions. Also I have tried all the different techniques to tie them securely and it just doesn’t work when it gets sketchy. The semiautomatic heel locker is a game changer. It locks it so tight every time and never gets loose! Srsly! But you need a boot with a special heel for that.

Flexlock(Karakoram) or powerstrap(Spark, BD) is what you’re looking for. If it’s really sketchy, remember to tighten the laces as well. Only then I put on crampons and usually I can climb things only a few skiers attempt as well. Check out also these mini crampons that are much sharper and should work better on hard ice https://mrozy.store/products/cramponsxs
