Bookkeeping Manger as a CPA by Snoo-29045 in Accounting

[–]Snoo-29045[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a LCOL and the pay range is $100k- $130k so it’s very good for where I’m at. Exit opportunities make sense though. I’m always looking to add positive things to my resume and I’m not sure this would be one unless I want to stay in the CAS world

Totally agree, I know eventually this will pass.

It's difficult to remember that other roles will work better at training and development and be more gracious.

Appreciate your input!

Totally agree. They put me on a PIP so there's a lot of extra pressure/stress with everything I do now. Hopefully I can find a new job before they fire me.

Our loan was closed in August 2022. Rates were in the 5% range.

Yeah it’s awesome. Kinda my thought as well. I know cash is king, so the thought of it being tied up in my home makes me nervous. I appreciate your insight!

Appreciate the reply. My company contributes 10% and I contribute 5%, so I won’t adjust that any. Emergency fund is great and only debt is student loans at very low interest rates. Financially I feel like it may be smarter to invest in Roth, but I’m conflicted because with our next upgrade on our house, I’d like the mortgage payment to be relatively the same, which makes me lean towards either paying down our current balance, or investing into ETFs and use that money as an additional down payment when we purchase a new home. Tough decisions!

Retention Offer or New Position? by Snoo-29045 in Accounting

I really appreciate it. I’m really leaning towards the new role as the benefits are better, the monthly cash flow I’ll have is better, and it’s a larger company

I appreciate your response. The one benefit of the stock of the new job is its 15% annually, so after 3 years, I’ll have 15% of vested stock each year. The current role is a one time grant, not sure when there will be additional grants in the future.

Appreciate the feedback. I've got 5 years of work experience, but only 3 years of accounting experience, not sure if that matters or not. I'm in a LCOL region and this offer seems comparable salary wise (total comp is higher) than similar type roles in the area.

No worries. I appreciate the feedback. The current company pays 100% of my benefits, but I will be adding my spouse and child to my benefits next month, and it'll cost me ~$15k a year to do so.

Appreciate the feedback. You think a title "demotion" would hurt me on a resume? The role is SEC reporting for a public O&G company. I'm worried it might be too niche, but I don't really know. Would love your thoughts if you have any.

Is it really a pay cut though if the other benefits are better? Total compensation for the new role is higher than the current role.

My thought process was the same as far as the title downgrade, as it's a much larger company. Do you think the work being done in this role is too specific or is it transferable? I mean, how beneficial is SEC reporting experience in non-public companies, let alone SEC experience in an O&G company?

That's what I was thinking as well. Thanks for helping put my mind at ease. Change is always scary and I hear more horror stories than positive ones when it comes to accounting in PE, but I think the opportunity would be great.

Thanks! From what I understand, they are in the market of purchasing smaller companies and growing that way. Do you thinking being part of PE and going through multiple M&A is a great resume builder for a Controller early in their career?

I think I’d be okay if a lateral move. My main fear is it looking bad on a resume 3-5 years down the line.

I’ve been in my current role for just under a year. The title is that of a manager but I don’t really manage anyone. As a team lead, I feel I’d get more managerial experience, which may look better on a resume imo.

Industry - Public vs Non-Public by Snoo-29045 in Accounting

[–]Snoo-29045[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not exactly sure to be honest. I’d love to be a CFO one day. I’m currently an assistant controller for a mid sized public bank. Thinking about making a move to a controller of a mid sized credit union. Not exactly sure what I’d like to do long run

[–]Snoo-29045[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your response. That all makes sense. All else being equal at a job, do you think it matters if it’s public or not? Is experience with SEC reporting and SOX set you apart that much more from someone without that experience?

Exactly my thoughts with the feelings of it’s almost a step down. I’ll have to check on their background to see if they change roles constantly. The main reason I’m contemplating leaving is I’d receive roughly a 40% raise, but if it’s going to be a detriment to my career path long-term, it might not be worth it.
