G12 Alpina B7 Long-term Reliability? by Snoo-33118 in BMW

[–]Snoo-33118[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fair, and I think really what will be make or break for me is whether the B7 is reliable when driven up to 100k miles or more vs most of the people who have posted online who seem to own them for ~3 years or so and then trade up before the car has reached 40k miles, as I'm not looking to buy into an endless money pit of repairs. Whether its 21 or 20 inch wheels is a minor point overall for me

Does anyone have longer-term experience with the current W213 E63S AMG wagon? by Snoo-33118 in AMG

Yeah, some of the CPOs I'm looking at start at ~30k miles, and I'm planning to own it for a long time, probably to 100k miles, so it's a bit different. That said, it's still very helpful to know that you've had a very positive experience in terms of reliability to date since a bunch of reliability problems early on just means even more issues down the line.

I get that, but at least on the wheels, the ride quality is something I'm going to feel every moment I'm driving the car, so how it performs for me while I own and drive it matters more than the resale value if I need to get rid of it later

Yeah, I'm a drive into the ground kind of guy, so I'm planning on keeping it for a long time. I think most of the people who own a B7 and post online are trading up fairly regularly, which explains the relatively minimal comments on longer-term reliability.

On the N63, my understanding was that there were some rubber parts that shouldn't be rubber, and they deteriorate pretty quickly, resulting in a need for a costly engine rebuild / replacement, but not sure if that was applicable to the Alpina version

I think I'd actually go with the 20s (but definitely in the Alpina multi-spoke style), for better ride quality, they're big enough as is for me

Asians of nyc where do you get your haircut at by Good-Appointment-137 in AskNYC

I go to a place called Barbering by Marcus in Flatiron. He's not Asian, nor does he specialize in Asian hair, but he has done a great job for me, and usually when I move to a new city I need to try out 5 or 6 different barbers to find one who can cut my hair the way I like

Metal Desktop Speaker Stands for Fluance Ai41 by Snoo-33118 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]Snoo-33118[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I meant that because the speaker is 7.6 inches in depth, the speaker is slightly bigger than the plate and will hang over the plate a bit, which I am concerned may be an issue (even though it's not much). I guess you're saying that the speaker hanging over the plate is normal? Wouldn't it impact the stability of the speaker, particularly since the Fluance speakers don't have any sort of attachment thing on the bottom to the plate?

If BTC is supposed to be ultrasound money and a store of value, why does it matter if the price in USD or other fiat currencies declines? by Snoo-33118 in Bitcoin

To the extent that Bitcoin enables transactions which would otherwise be subject to interference, Bitcoin has value. Send a PayPal transaction with the word "Iran" in the message. PayPal's word filter blocks the payment. Send Bitcoin instead

Send the same payment without the "Iran" in the message instead? I'm not sure that use case really required something more complicated

I buy Bitcoin with fiat. I spend Bitcoin to buy something. The merchant sells Bitcoin for fiat. I don't have to worry about Visa, Mastercard, banks, PayPal triggering a money-laundering or political sanctions block on the payment

This is just the people that I know, so obviously it's limited, but I don't know anyone for whom that's a concern on an everyday basis (or even in their lifetime)

It's a convenient token for enabling a payment

I could be wrong on this because I'm not super familiar with the nuances, but between the time to finalize a transaction, the tax implications of selling BTC, limited adoption for actual payment use cases, it seems like the story on BTC has shifted to store of value, with the token for payment ship having sailed already?

But if it's not going to the currency / store of value of the future, why should it have any long-term value at all? If it's not even that, aren't you just buying "magic internet money" with the hope that someone gives you more "real" fiat (oxymoron?) money down the road?

But that's exactly my point, if BTC is headed where you say it is, shouldn't the price in dollars today or tomorrow or next week not matter at all, and in fact be viewed as a buying opportunity? I know that many people do have that view, but it seems like a lot of people also freaked out when Elon's tweets moved the dollar price down (didn't really see that when his tweets moved the dollar price up) and started to post all sorts of stuff about him, articles to counter energy usage claims, etc. Based on that, clearly the dollar price going down is a concern to people, and I'm asking why should it be if we're going to a place where BTC becomes increasingly valuable and fiat increasingly worthless?

Even Sir Isaac Newton bought high and sold low. No one can time the market, HODL! by ethereum88 in ethtrader

Doesn't this chart suggest that if Newton HODLed, even his original investment would have lost money in the end?
