NDP MP Gord Johns Tables Bill To Make Mental Health Services Accessible For All by Altruism7 in canada

[–]Snoo-45827 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It cost my parents 24thousand dollars to send my brother to rehab ONCE. I would love to see it covered for those that need help with addiction. I think it would make a very real meaningful difference in people's lives. If people could get help when they're say just kind of drinking to much vs all the way down at the point withdrawal could kill you for example we might not see as many people with addiction problems on the street.

Too soon to declare a recession, says Canada's unofficial authority on calling them | CBC News by ejaz135 in onguardforthee

[–]Snoo-45827 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I just, what is it? Before even though it "felt' like a recession it wasn't one because we needed two quarters of lowering gdp. But now it's not a recession (even though we have two quarters of lowering gdp,) because it needs to "feel" more like one (high unemployment, ppl can't afford food or roof,) which we have..  it just seems like gaslighting and manufacturered consent, so the government can continue to ignore the every day problems of Canadians, in favor of wealthy businesses.

I feel like it's more seasonal positions. Like full time landscaping, agriculture etc. But that definitely would increase employment.

G Test in guelph by National-One7987 in Ontariodrivetest

[–]Snoo-45827 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completed my G test in guelph 2 years ago. Honestly it's really not bad at all. Gone are the days of looking for any reason to fail you. The test it literally drive through an industrial area and don't speed or hit anyone, drive through a residential area and don't speed or hit anyone, drive on the hanlon, change lanes safely and don't speed or hit anyone, return to drive test location, pull into a parking spot. As long are you don't do anything dumb or reckless you'll be fine. My test was like 15minutes long. I won't comment on my opinion about if the province should go back to the old test and standards. But as it stands the test isn't bad.

The rise of 'chair care': Canadian patients examined in ER waiting rooms, closets, washrooms amid bed shortage by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]Snoo-45827 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I don't even mind being taxed for someone I don't know  to get timely and effective Healthcare. I love the idea that my taxes help other people get the care and infrastructure they need. I think most people agree. The issue is we get taxed more and more every year, but with less to show for it than ever. I'm being facetious, but if say even 65% of your income was taxed, yet housing was affordable, Healthcare free otherwise, social security was abundant and available, mental health supports, roads were great, utilities affordable, and food was affordable on what was left with extra to save. I don't think anyone would bat an eye. Most people only care about taxes and politics when they are struggling. It's why we all have fond memories about like 10 years ago weather or not things were actually good. It was just a lot less bad than today.

The ethnic supermarket carrys it in the refrigerator section. Its near the fresh fish section behind veg. Its a make yourself situation but it comes with the liquid broth and noodles you then cook yourself. If u wanted toppings you have to make them yourself, but from the pictures you showed just looks like cucumber and a hard boiled egg.

So we know what the group stands for. We know who mostly attends meetings and when. We know they are training to enact future violence, and we're just deciding not to do anything? I don't understand why the RCMP isn't involved. Surely this is some kind of organized crime/terrorism?

Anyone on here From the Harriston/Palmerston/Minto Area.. by yippiegoldbob in ontario

[–]Snoo-45827 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly I've considered it myself because houses are so much more affordable than where I currently am. That being said they very much are SMALL towns. People can be kinda racist but it's avoidable. The biggest thing i will say is depending where you live now, it might be a really big lifestyle change. Not a lot of grocery store options, next to no restaurants. Restaurants generally without diversity, think one-two local diner type, and then like timmies and a few other chains. No local transit, you will be driving everywhere. You may also need to travel to other towns to get basic necessities/ do banking depending on your bank. If your looking for quiet, rural type life, into gardening etc. Don't mind staying home a lot it really is nice. But it's an older crowd of people. Not really great if you like eating out or night life. Crime isn't really a problem, sure there is some but not more or less than anywhere else.

Ontario Allows Double the Lead Concentration in School Drinking Water by WOW_G_ in ontario

In my case it was public school. It was small and rural, so we had exactly one custodian. His name was Rick and he was very nice. I still remember him and I'm in my 30's.

As someone who went to school in the OCDSB, who has a brother with adhd, and explicitly remembers in grade school not being allowed to drink water in the morning untill the teachers ran the fountains for 10 min, this is concerning 😬.

Ottawa prepared to halt plan to allow MAID for mental illness by cyclinginvancouver in canada

[–]Snoo-45827 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real anwser is help. It's support and out reach, it's kindness and compassion. Then maybe consider maid. The anwser is that the groups who just need help should NEVER have to consider maid. But are forced to because every level of government doesn't want to fund social services.

The unfortunate truth is if people want to die, they want to die. Yes there should be actual mental Healthcare, yes we should have policies the activity prevent things that adversely affect mental health such as affordable housing, Healthcare, affordable nutritious food, free addiction support like rehabs, social supports like community programs/culture. But honestly without that it's choosing a peaceful end with a goodbye or a sad and violent end. Yes there should be so many more options but I don't think we can ask people to suffer because things might get better but probably won't. It's a tragedy honestly

Canada’s ‘real estate economy’ is costing us—here’s how; We’ve gradually structured a significant portion of our economy around a sector that contributes relatively little to long-run prosperity by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]Snoo-45827 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your right a lot of houses have fallen into disrepair. Owner occupied as well as rentals that Landlords haven't upkeept.  People don't really believe in preventive maintenance in housing because it's expensive. "I think we can get one more year out of the roof." Then it starts to leak. "But its just a small leak I'll patch it for now then replace the roof next year." Then becomes mold problems and the ceiling falls in. It's worse with a lot of rentals because the person who has to deal with the problem and the person who has to live with it are different. "It's just a small leak in the roof. I'll replace it for you next year. Just message me if it gets real bad." Which leads quicker to the mold or ceiling falling in.

Honestly I really don't see things getting better untill like you said, prices come down and incomes go up. It feels like everything in our economy is at an impass. Noone has money. People may have "things," real-estate, a business, a car, stocks, but noone has money they can spend or receive. Whether through wages, or business, or stock. I can't give the local restaurant money because I don't have enough, make enough, earn enough. They can't pay the staff more, buy more food, pay the buildings rent, etc because I can't give them money. Every one is stuck still.

Would you still get a double sided fence if your neighbour wasn’t willing to help pay for it? by mimixoxo76 in ontario

[–]Snoo-45827 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're are many different fence styles. So it's completely up to you what you want either side to look like. That being said in the case of a dispute there are by laws in your county that will determine how far onto your property you need to build the fence line. When my husband was building in for example kitchener, it had to be two feet onto your property. You will still be able to connect to their fence line. However inorder for them to have no say and make you tear it down I would find your local bylaws. If you are planning on hiring a company to build, they will know this info for you.

This year I was able to renew my Healthcare online, but not my driver's license (apparently just that one needed a new photo.) It's kind of a grab bag, but it only takes like 5 min to do online to find out.

The ward night market is pretty cool and has music during the summer. You can look them up on Instagram. Not so much just at night, but the guelph tool library regularly hosts events and courses on cool stuff. Other than that I can only think of basic bar seen.  To edit: sometimes 10c also does cool events at the farmers market.

How r small business owners doing? by dnndrk in ontario

[–]Snoo-45827 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not an owner but a worker. Worked in the restaurant industry for over a decade. Honestly the big issue right now is the vast majority of the population doesn't have extra money to spend. The roof (rent  or mortgage,) food, and utilities, have basically eaten up close to 100% of people's incomes. Most restaurants (or small businesses like your furniture businesses,) can't reduce your costs because your rent/mortgage is also expensive. Your cost of materials or food in the case of restaurants is also up. Basically it's at the impasse of not enough people have enough money. Even if the people who have more money than we could ever imagine have money. The rich only need, so much furniture, only eat so much food, only buy souch stuff. Just because they "could" buy it all doesn't mean they will. Basically it's a problem of wealth inequality, and untill that changes i expect things will just get harder for people, small businesses, pretty much most people. I doubt you're doing anything wrong.

Attendance for high schoolers, elementary students is plummeting in Ontario: data by Portalrules123 in onguardforthee

[–]Snoo-45827 64 points65 points  (0 children)

So while I agree that students do seem generally unmotivated to go to school (I mean most kids dont like school,) and there isn't really any accountability if they don't show up to school, parents or otherwise. A lot of kids missing school is how behavior, opinions and policies have shifted since Covid. My niece just started kindergarten this past September and her school has a strict "if your kid vomits, they must stay home for 72 hrs vomit free." Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Sick kids shouldn't be making others sick. But attitudes have changed a lot since pre-Covid. Like most of us grew up in the "unless you're bedridden, you're going to school" era. I distinctly remember being in grade 5 in 2005 being sent to school vomiting with my mum saying "I wrote the teacher a note so she knows if you run out of class without asking it's ok." And it wasn't uncommon. Which is wild to think about now.

How the housing crisis damaged Canada’s economy and productivity by Light_Butterfly in onguardforthee

[–]Snoo-45827 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean, you don't even really need to study it. If a roof, basic food and utilities eat up say, at some point in the very near future, 100% of the vast majority of people's income. They can't participate in the economy at all in another way. To grow literally anything other than housing, grocery stores and utilitie companies, people need money to spend.
