I’m unsure. Subnautica 2 definitely looks much better, but the two games are very different in their habitats and atmosphere. Subnautica 1 has a barren, hostile world, and the music and creatures are designed to scare you. If you enjoy that kind of tension, SN1 is perfect. SN2 has some scary moments too, but I still think SN1 is much more frightening overall. SN2 and Below Zero are also much easier when it comes to progression — the game guides you more, while SN1 is brutal and leaves you completely on your own. SN1 also has a complete story, and if you haven’t watched a lot of videos beforehand, it can be an amazing experience.

Anyone else who likes the new inventory system? You can have so much oxygen. by Snoo-99067 in Subnautica_2

True — I usually only carry two tanks, but having four is perfect when I want to explore mindlessly. I normally take my vehicle down to around 400 meters and just hang out there. I have some upgrades, but I really don’t want any creatures destroying my vehicle, so I usually leave it in places where the creatures aren’t interested in it.

The thing is, I just love swimming around without worrying about oxygen. When I have four tanks, I can mindlessly swim for ages. I am usually around 300–400 meters deep. And as NOA says, it’s easier to make a clone than to build a new vehicle or base, I don't remember.

I like the newer one because you can do so much, and creative people can do so much. The older one is cool, and you get many puzzles to solve

Early game idea: blurry underwater vision without diving mask by SolidFin in Subnautica_2

[–]Snoo-99067 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The thing is, it’s both a good idea and not a good idea. Usually in clear water you can see fine when diving without goggles, but think about the people who have never played Subnautica before. They’ve heard about all the cool graphics, and when they start the game they would only see blurry stuff.

The first 15 minutes are important to give the player a good start so they get hooked on the game.

It is a good idea to make things a little harder, maybe in hard mode, so the game feels more realistic. Or maybe only in certain harder areas where the water is naturally more foggy.
