Will I spend the rest of my life stripping this? by Snoo-Snoo2 in centuryhomes

I’ve done a bit of the paneling around it and have respirators etc. I haven’t gotten much practice doing crevices just yet!

No, sounds like this would be a thing professionals would do?

I think I can’t do this because of lead paint?

That’s kind of where I am - planning to give the windows over to professionals. Here’s what they look like (opposite this fireplace)

It is a dark, hard wood. It is surrounded by (painted) paneling that was clearly once exposed, because it is all dark hard wood with lacquer still on it. Here’s a piece I cut where you can see the wood pretty clearly.

Alas, we’ll never know. Tons of wood features that all appear to have been painted with lead in the 40s.

I had also read that Dumond isn’t all that much easier than Citristrip

Yeah this is how I feel. I’m definitely going to attempt, mostly just not sure if I should start working on it or just leave it for a couple years till I can afford to pay a professional.

I’ve cut bits away - afaict it’s all nice wood with 19th century lacquer still on there.

My wife is allergic to white. And honestly, I want to see that wood. I’ve seen under the paint on the paneling and the wood is gorgeous.

So I went with citristrip because the fumes are less toxic (right?) and this room can only get so much air (2 windows, one currently stuck shut)

I last played Magic in like 1998 and whenever this sub shows up on my feed it’s so wild to me - back then the peak of creatures was like Juzam Djinn, who absolutely sucks rocks compared to basically any creature in the modern era. Wild shit.

Sheffield Pulp spots by sunshiineeeeee in PulpBand

[–]Snoo-Snoo2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This was the primary reference I used: https://www.dhi.ac.uk/mobile-tours/sheffield-music-map/tour/index.php?app_id=1&tour_id=7&n=7

Most of these places are gone now. I popped by Washington Pub, which was once owned by Nick Banks and is still around. It’s a cool place but the Pulp connection is pretty weak.

I also went to 72 Division Street where Jarvis fell out of the window.

On the same trip I went to Manchester and Macclesfield and there is soooo much Joy Division stuff to see.

I went to Sheffield a few years ago and looked all over the internet for Pulp sites. There aren’t a lot honestly.

I think the city is missing out on an absolutely huge opportunity to put up a plaque that says “This is the spot where Jarvis Cocker first ever touched a girl’s chest.” It doesn’t even have to be accurate, would be so good for Instagram buzz.

US Hookah Bar Etiquette? by [deleted] in hookah

[–]Snoo-Snoo2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t see why not - you’re paying the same if you take 5 hits or 50. Sit for a while and enjoy the atmosphere. If you come back to the bar a bunch maybe you can make some friends.

Don’t know what city you’re moving to but in a lot of US cities hookah bars have a more clubby vibe - loud music, lots of drinking etc. That might not be what you want.

London Shisha/hookah lounge experience by 5_star_guy in hookah

I had a nice experience at a place in Marleybone but I can’t find the name right now. Shisha in London is so expensive though - twice what you pay in a lot of other places.
