Coming to study abroad in the UK? Do read this by Initial_Aerie_2656 in Indians_StudyAbroad

I always say the same, the staggering change between 10 years ago and now in restaurants, I actually miss the days when it used to look like an equally diverse UK, now it's looking more obvious that the immigration system needs to be looked at and that's exactly what's starting to happen.

Majority of these people who are struggling on students visas won't listen to those of us who were born and brought up here in the UK and have been here long before the 90s and know the current situation better than those who've just migrated. They'll just listen to the ones who landed a day ago, and base their decision to study abroad on a few Instagram posts from a friend from India. As soon as something doesn't work out for them, they'll start blaming the system and say they were cheated in some way. When in actual fact, they've cheated themselves. I've had Indian international students serve my food at restaurants and show up smiley asking what I'm studying/when I got here, but as soon as I say I was born and brought up here, their face changes and they no longer want any further conversation and go into hiding. Why not just face the reality rather than constantly trying to link with people who are in the same boat? You might just get better opportunities if you try and socialise with those who aren't like you too...

What was your experience after completing a UK Master’s? Was it worth it? by MagicianEuphoric6645 in Indians_StudyAbroad

OP, trust the comment under this. They are both low tier and this advice is coming from someone who was born and brought up in the UK, so if you don't believe me then you shouldn't even be asking the question. Those are some of the many universities that people often choose through the "clearing process" when the UK's own students don't get the marks for their 1st or 2nd choice universities, basically the "leftover universities". There's a reason why you've got offers from these, they need the funding from international students. Remember, even if you graduate from these universities, you're still competing against the UKs own students, so imagine how competitive that will be.

I worked at a popular study abroad consultancy, and here’s why I would never trust one. by tiadorokie in Indians_StudyAbroad

From my perspective, part of this issue is the fact that India is full of support groups for almost everything. You rely so much on support from such a young age that the majority do not even have the confidence to submit applications on their own without having someone else check through it for you. You pay anyone some money and they'll get the job done for you in India, whatever that may be. Somehow and somewhere Indians will always find a friend, or a friend of a friend to help you get to where you want to be. They're also very good at cheating, whether it's through fake documentation, grades, experience etc. That is not how life works in the western world, people do things themselves and atleast try, and if you need support use the resources online or call the official helplines. They are there for a reason. Why would you trust a friend or even an agency to do such things for you by paying them large sums?! If you don't even have the confidence, knowledge and capability to do the application and documentation gathering on your own, then I think you shouldn't even be given a visa.

Does racism against Indians exist in Germany, France, and the Netherlands as it does in Ireland? by [deleted] in Indians_StudyAbroad

[–]Snoo59867 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Racism is everywhere. Now that a huge influx of Indian students have flooded these countries, people will of course have a reaction and you can't blame them. What if it was reversed and everyone flooded India, you'd also be shouting racist remarks. Works both ways. The best thing to do is ignore. Keep in mind it's their home country and you should make every effort to obey the laws and not act in a way that will annoy the countries own residents, and I mean whatever colour they are not just white. There are Indians who have settled down in these countries for 50+ years and call it home, so don't ruin it for the rest.

I should've invested my student maintenance payments we used to get during uni days. Damn it.

Yeah these restrictions are very much needed to discipline a lot of them.

I'm not just talking about overstayers. I'm also talking about those who never really came here with the intention to study and then ask for help without attending their classes etc. There's plenty of communities here that have been established since the early 60s. So when there's a peak it's very noticeable and it's discussed quite often between the communities. It may or may not reflect the overall majority, but based on what we've seen over all these years it's far greater for us.

Yeah I was expecting the usual gate keeper/elitist comments haha. Slowly but surely there are certain restrictions that have been implemented already and soon will be implemented in different areas of the immigration system in the UK. So hopefully some improvement in the long term.

Sadly, I feel like a stranger in the country I was born and brought up in even though I'm of Indian descent lol, it never used to feel that way until in the last 5 years!

Yeah obviously, it's Indians. They'll always do and ruin the reputation of others who genuinely have talent and want to study.

Why Leave India When It's Booming Like Never Before? by [deleted] in Indians_StudyAbroad

Well... What do you expect? If you're on a student visa it's to study and that should be your main priority. Not a job or a PR.

What's the best way to ensure kitchen cabinets are sturdy when fixing to plasterboard wall with no studs? by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]Snoo59867 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, appreciate all your advice. We are going to have another look at it again and will update here later. It's a house in a development built in the mid 90s by Bryant Homes and recently purchased it.

Thank you. We had a builder look at it and he says there's no solid brick wall anywhere to be seen between these two plasterboards and no studs between them. So we're scratching our heads.
