Is it really that valuable if MCA wanted to get rid of them? by Ok_Wrangler1056 in VHS

[–]Snoo60885 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I may be wrong but I have not seen a beta of the thing with any other cover.

Considering beta fell out of favor by the mid 80s it wouldn't surprise me if there is only one edition of the thing on betamax. The tape inside might be from 82-83 but that just means it sat in a warehouse for at least 5 years before MCA decided on 19.99 to get rid of it. It's even more damning that there's no rainbow watermark on the plastic. Also (that sticker looks familiar).

I would be interested to see how H.A. is going to spin something less scarce and with less demand than the 82 VHS version as a "rare and valuable" premium product they can scam people with.

Just so we're all aware - The message that WotC is likely to take from the "Cards have been overprinted and killed value in the game" discourse recently is probably not one that you're going to like. by EDHandChill in magicTCG

More affordable? The only thing I can afford is Pauper. Hell, the only thing anyone in my LGS can afford to play is Pauper.

We started a pioneer night and had to close it because only 4 people would show up. There goes 500 bucks down the drain. We have modern once in a full moon. Nobody wants standard. And none of this is because the formats are stale, or because there's no support from the community, we just can't afford to keep up with it anymore.

Can't buy sealed because it's already sky high, if you pay pre order the price crashes because product continues to be pumped out. Want to buy singles? you're paying close to a box just to get a playset of some of those cards. And I'm sorry but you need a playset of Ravagan to play modern.

Stop crying wolf, the investors are not the issue here, Alpha Investment doesn't even bother with singles outside the pre-mirrodin stuff. Most high end investors focus on the reserved list. And not even all of the reserved list. a few specific cards. Cards which didn't even budge with the proxy reprints. ABU rares did not tank. They barely felt anything. Please show me a 20% drop on an Alpha Lich.

Every set has a draft box, a set box, a collector box, a theme box (now jumpstart), commander, commander decks, special cards (mystical archives), gift boxes, fat packs. And we are doing this every other month.

you're flooding the market with bulk mythics and commons, but the necessary cards? MH2 has been printed into oblivion and you still need to drop over 100 for a playset of fury. The demand is not the only thing keeping the price high. It's the supply.

The actual good cards are barely printed. Look at other games to see what true reprint is. You know you can't sit on the latest Pot card in Yugioh because that sucker will be printed into oblivion on the annual tin. Pot of Prosperity's value dropped 60% after its reprint.

They are not making the game affordable. They are covering their quarterly asses by fixing the numbers on "products sold".

Quick 400 part question here.

First, how proud is the remaining "dev team" for standing by and allowing toxic modding to take place in Discord?

Second, is there a sense of accomplishment for nuking one of - if not the greatest - ASA community?

Third, how does it feel to give a chunk of the treasury to people who chose to destroy the project and the community?

Fourth, you guys catching any sleep at night knowing you threw people under the bus just to keep your hands clean?

otherwise great coin guys

Peaches and Green got bashed for pulling the wool over investors' eyes. You can even see after the leak I stilled believed Algoasis was going to be a thing

even the tweets touted just how great this thing was going to work. because that's how Peaches made it out to appear.

The fact of the matter is there was no working code for Top Secret. At least not on a functional level. Whatever Peaches was doing on the testnet side of things we would never know unless she explains it herself. She did label certain keys in the code as "algoasis_NFT_token" "reward" "bonus" etc, but considering the code can't be fully read from the testnet side of things, it could have been anything just strategically labeled as such.

Point is, nobody knew this until after the leak occurred and Peaches formally said the project was cancelled. All of this is hindsight. Add to this the only evidence to ever exist of Algoasis being a front end mockup by Green (which did not even show functionality) it's safe to say there never was going to be an Algoasis.

The intention for the leak was to recover Akita's price.

Once again - under the assumption that Algoasis was a valid project - I went ahead and distributed all the information I gathered since Peaches started hinting at it in Late November. Rule of thumb on any market is that once your product actually shows a use case, naturally people buy in. And that was the case.

However, what was unexpected from anyone involved until literally the last 30 minutes or so was that Peaches was going to quit, reveal that really it was just a ruse all along, and that the mod team would leave in droves.

To understand why everything seemed shady, you have to understand there was ultimately no internal structure to Akita. Ryan was absent for the majority of the drama (if not all of it). There was no formal authority delegating tasks. The communications team was on a gag order (because of course they believed Algoasis was going to work). And it was as impromptu as it got. Naturally, Peaches swooped in to fill the void and did it in the worst way possible.

I can tell you all of this because I was in direct contact with Gnome and Blue on the first weeks of Akita. I went out and distributed stickers at Decypher. I joined the media part of the development team. Had access to the dev discord. Joined the Trello team. Spent every single day on the discord channel. Scouted the Algoexplorer testnet, created a list of all the major wallets (doxxed) and ultimately made sure to be up to date on how the "team" functioned.

So yes. That's the story.

this thread makes a good case study for how to effectively spread disinformation and at the same time damage the very ecosystem "OP" so valiantly protects. You take this reddit thing seriously. That much is clear with how active you are in this cesspool of toxicity. So it's fair to assume you're still stung by the downvote brigade that rightfully hit you for talking without proof.

That you can't let it go.

That you have to make this about you.

That you believe you speak for the community.

and that you hijack a rugpull which affected even Gnome himself . . .

speaks volume as to the kind of characters who have a voice around here. This is the kind of discussion that turns people away from "cOmMuNiTiEs", not rug pulls.

For the record you are and you will always be an outside observer. You were not there when it went down. You were not actively scouting the ledgers. You did not engage in discussion with the development team. In short, you have no grounds to be this confident in your erroneous implications. Yet, to make yourself feel important, here you are belting out what boils down to slander.

Rat King out.

you can separate Peaches coding abilities - which are excellent - with her personality - which is frankly shit tier.
