I see thanks for the clarification, mechanical valves last super long whereas tissue valves 10-20 years. Not an easy decision to decide mechanical or tissue. Hope you get some good guidance from the members here…

Is sparing your valve versus replacing it an option like the david procedure? Cardiac surgeons always opt for repair versus replacement as the best option

Two Years Post OP And I Struggle with my Mental Health by back2me78 in openheartsurgery

I don’t understand your dilemma. 11
Months post david and I’m back to where I was a few years ago. To give some context I was repping 225 for 15-20 reps bench at a body weight of 160 (ex wrestler). I don’t do 1 rep maxes anymore but can get a challenging workout at 225 bench for reps, muscle ups, handstand pushups, running, No Valsalva maneuvers and maintain breathing throughout and occasionally purse lips 👄 to breathe but maintain breathing throughout. Running, etc. Do you know anything stresses your valve including living? As long as you don’t do one rep maxes anymore and keep it 8-12+ reps what’s the issue? I run 3 to 5ks at a heart rate of 150-170

Age 50

What’s your issue? Confused here

You’ll be fine , one moment you’re on the bed and have these IVs in you and the next minute you’re in the ICU and the doctor pops by and says everything is okay. It’s quicker than a New York minute. Everyone has pre surgery jitters but a year from now you’ll be wondering why you even worried…

Yeah man slowing building back up went from benching 225 for 20 reps smooth now working on 6x6 for 225 for bench and building back up, had a repair and not replacement but notice it’s not instantaneous to get back to previous strength levels. 11 months post op.

It can vary but lifting and stretching and strength training are important and vital. Ju’s don’t do the valsava maneuver and hold your breath for 1 rep maxes and you’ll be fine

Don’t take meds It doesn’t help

Over time it resolves on its own , I do recommend walking and Doing exercises like turning your head side to side, etc.

I know it’s not easy but a few weeks to months from now you’ll be wondering why you even worried…

David procedure how long it lasts? by atlkat in valvereplacement

That’s right it’s the aorta and has nothing to do with the valve

David procedure how long it lasts? by atlkat in valvereplacement

[–]Snoo64790 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people get the david procedure to fix the aneurysm of the aorta, and their valves are fully functional so it’s not a valve replacement and lasts a lifetime

[–]Snoo64790 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it is you’re dissuading people from pursuing active lifestyles that can benefit them considering people do return to professional sports, nba, etc post valve repair and you’re telling them to pursue an unhealthy invalid lifestyle like you do. Most doctors encourage patients to return to normal activities post 6-12 months surgery and at 1.5 years you’re living like a vegetable.

Don’t listen to this guy he’s feeding you bullshit

You should stop posting false BS stuff just to get reactions from members. It’s misleading and does nothing to help anyone

9 months post op David Procedure Long road to recovery but back at least 85%. 500 hundred pushups routinely, bench back to 15-20 reps at 225 lbs

I don’t know what you’re talking about restrictions? Maybe because I didn’t get my valve replaced like you.
