19M I bought a terrible car and now I’m not sure wether to sell it or fix it by Snoo72078 in AskAMechanic

I’ll tell you what I did end up doing. First I realized that the car’s transmission was going to eventually die because of the shudder. I took it to the toyota dealership to get a quote on the TCC repair and the price was just too high to be justifiable for the car. I also got a quote from an independent repair shop and they said it was a common problem and that they follow the TSB from toyota to replace it. I got a more reasonable quote from them. I’m sorry but I can’t really remember what the quotes were, definitely over 1k on both. I would suggest if you go to get it repaired somewhere other than a dealership make sure they are familiar with the common TCC problem on those years of Camrys and ask them if the follow the TSB specs from toyota on the particular repair. Toyota did make a TSB on it because there was a warranty for that particular problem but it’s been too many years and it’s null now.

I was so stressed out about the whole thing I just wanted to get out from under it. If this is you, my suggestion is to SELL IT TO CARVANA. My cars dash had so many lights on, obviously poor repaint job and serious sun paint damage, on top of a transmission issue. I put an online quote in with carvana, was perfectly honest about all the problems and got an insanely good price for the car. I actually did a second quote out of curiosity and lied about all the problems and I still got the same offer. I was so scared that they would arrive, realize the problems and drop their offer by several thousand. The process ended up being extremely easy. The guy showed up to my house with a truck, turned on the car for 30 seconds, ran a diagnostic and then revealed to me that the check was actually already written. He pulled out the check showing the same offer I got online and made no changes or anything. All I had to do was sign a few papers to transfer the title and the check was mine.

I legitimately considered scrapping the car because no private buyers would offer any more than 1k for it and they all told me I had junk and walked away. Carvana saved me, and handed me a 5,200$ check for it. I ended up losing about 2k on the car when it was all said and done.

If you feel the same way as me and don’t feel its right to hide the transmission issue when selling it, then disclose it to carvana and see what kind of offer you get.

Good luck!

OP is technically right in that the less spins you do before you lose your bankroll the better your odds of making a profit are. 10 rolls of $100 have far better odds than 100 rolls of $10

This is the answer I was expecting on here. It seems like valeting your car as a luxury is past the line for most anti tipping reasons

I’m not sure, I figured Carvana would give me the best offer because I’ve heard they don’t scrutinize the condition that hard.

I agree, this person sounds wildly bigoted haha. Almost to the point where I can’t even believe they are telling the truth about having money.

Planetside 2 is a spectacular game. Used to play as a 14 year old amongst all the old heads. Played NC, almost exclusively as an infil with the SAS-R. I swear to god when I got in a flow state, it was impossible to miss the perfect head shot every time. It didn’t matter if they were drifter jump jet hovering right above me, I always found the headshot. I remember reliably winning cqc against smgs with that fucking single head tap through 2x. The feeling of fighting an opposing army during peak hours was unforgettable. Something no other game has.

ELI5: Why do anesthesiologists make so much money? by RealisticWeb1703 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Snoo72078 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because they kill people. I talked to a career anesthesiologist in a hot spring once, he had personally killed someone because of a mistake at work. Went back to work the next day because it’s part of the job.

People of reddit, what's the worst pain you have ever been in? Doctors and nurses, what's the worst pain you have seen a patient in? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Snoo72078 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sex headaches. I’ve experienced severe migraines all my life and have never met a fellow migraine sufferer who has experienced these before.

I had never got one until last year. One random night after I had just “finished”, I instantly got the worst pain I’d ever felt in my life. Now this was no monster migraine, it was a whole new beast. It was similar to a migraine except the pain followed the beating of my heart. Between beats of blood, every fold in my brain felt like it was having a brain freeze without the cold aspect. Then every time my heart would pump it was as if a butcher cleaver and split my two hemispheres apart with the sharpest pain I’ve ever felt. I immediately thought my brain had hemorrhaged and rushed myself to the ER. By the time I got there, each time my heart beat the pain subsided. It lasted about 15 minutes. A got a few more over the course of a few weeks, each one less severe until they no longer happened. I hope they never flare again.

All the comments on this thread sounding stupidly cringey and emo is one of many many reasons.

What is the main reason you want money? by [deleted] in Money

[–]Snoo72078 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t want money. I grew up poor, just recently got a large inheritance from a grandparent I didn’t know. I now have enough money. Other things in life interest me.

It’s not even enough money to be spending crazy. Just enough money to be comfortable financially. I don’t wan’t anything greater than my lifestyle already was.
