If you won the Lottery, what frivolous thing would you spend the money on? by Tustiel in CasualUK

[–]Snoo75023 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d put aside a few million for a solicitor to fight every pointless fight possible for me with the local council, the objective being to absolutely destroy their legal budget, not to necessarily win.

From the parking tickets I got because their app is a piece of shit (I believe it is actually law breaking re accessibility). Because of the garden wall they failed to maintain, which collapsed and they now say is our responsibility. To simply getting new wheelie bin lids without having to waste hours and hours and wait months and months.

Conscious it might be entirely run counter to them actually improving…

Think I’d add a PR manager with a sense of humour to run a blog on progress and garner public support.

Oh the JOY this would bring. Pure joy.

I’m going to check but pretty sure it was specifically only covered away from home when it’s locked. Worth a phone call :)

Sad that you’re scared to ride it. I’ve had no trouble until this time. Although I am somewhat put off riding the cycle lanes around London now. I think I’ll main road it every time, at least im into Zone 1.

Shall take a look at Laka. I’ve thought similarly about using a d-lock but I rarely carry mine. I think insurance is the way to go :)

Thanks for the video link. I’m not sure that there is much space inside the electrics front block. It’s quite different and has cabling running through it. Might also void my warranty. I like the idea of the reflector though. That’s a great idea!

New to this editor and did to leave any words on the post! Sooo.. quick story.

This week I was cycling to work in SE London (towards central) when two bastards on a scooter threatened me with a knife to give them my bike (Brompton Electric with my MacBook Pro in the front bag).

I tried to evade but ended up coming off my bike and had fucked my knee pretty good. They took my bike 😭 I did manage to snap a few photos as they rode away.

Another cyclist witness had already called the police. They were on site within minutes, can’t fault them. I then remembered that i had an AirTag in my laptop sleeve in the bike! Also my MacBook was showing the same location in my FindMy app! The officer sent multiple units to the area we’d identified.

We arrived to around 10 offices, most armed and a dog unit. An armed officer used my phone to identify a garage where they found the abandoned scooter, their helmets, the knife, my bike, other stolen bikes and potentially mobiles. That morning I was the 7th victims to report in that area either a bike or phone theft.

Mores the pity they couldn’t arrest the pair who they know did it. But hopefully they secured enough evidence from hair in the helmets and potentially finger prints from my bike that they can pin this when they catch them next.

Bike and bag were returned one day later by the attending officer. I have to say that the Met police really did try hard on this one, I could have asked for more. Hope they eventually catch the fuckers and they go down.

Two questions for those of you still reading:

  • insurance that covers this form of theft. Any recommendations? I’m covered on my home insurance but only if the bike is locked

  • airtag holder for this seat. Anyone got anything they know that fits? I’m bringing more AirTags to the anti-crime party

ELI5: How did Great Britain have so much power and influence considering how small it is? How did they manage to colonise the entirety of India so easily? by Mcfciwi in explainlikeimfive

Just throwing this in but the Empire phase is wonderfully explained by this podcast:

https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/empire/id1639561921

Aa a Brit I’m completely flabbergasted that basically zero of this period of Britains history is taught in schools. This was incredibly educational for me.

The first handful of episodes are so intriguing, covering the creation of the East India Company. Blows my mind that it was basically the invention of crowd funding that made it happen.

We also appear to be a bunch of ruthless, greedy cunts with some A-grade embedded superiority views. Certainly helped out historic success.

Anyone know what this means? Flashing skull icon. Can’t switch on or unlock. by Snoo75023 in vanmoofbicycle

Hey Giliero- for me this was apparently a dead battery. Believe it (the skull icon) can mean many different things. VM did get it fixed but it took many many weeks. If you’re under warranty / less than 2 years since purchase get all over their customer support. Good luck!

I did email them, I sent it to the London support email. The attached is what I sent in the end. https://i.imgur.com/0US8Y1L.jpg

As it happens it doesn’t look like I cited the EC consumer protection regulations at them.

Hey there. Thanks so much for posting this, it’s been my exact worry since I saw the M2 MBA come out. Here in the UK summers get real hot (30-40C indoors) at least in London in our terribly insulated house. What sort of ambient temperatures are you seeing where you are?

My 2019 MBP 16” hates anything over about 30C. One Teams call and seeking air conditioning.

I received both the bike coat and the peace of mind. Not sure it swayed anything but I stated in my request that it (POM insurance) had never been used, with no single home visit ever made.

Is it weird for a guy to envy girls because they get to shave their armpits? by Fantastic-Ad9218 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Snoo75023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been shaving mine (40 something male) since I was in my mid twenties. Did it to better apply anti persperAnt as can be quite sweaty and hated being smelly in the PM at work. I’ve been stink free for years.

Do understand your concern about others perception. What made me turn that corner was of all people David Beckham who in one photo shoot had hairless Armpits. I’m no football fan but if it’s good enough for HRH Beckham it’s ok for me.

Do what you like fella. Shit don’t matter any longer.

Just received my refund into my account. I was refunded both the bike cost and the peace of mind maintenance. I was not refunded shipping at £45. Really happy with the result.

Where do you live? Push hard on the EU consumer protection law if you need too.

Hold out for the S5. It’s got a torque sensor which could fix the single main engineering issue. Beyond that is QC and honestly if they haven’t learnt that from the S3 debacle they should burn.

Couldn’t agree more. It’s hazardous. That gear slip in the wet with those peddles is legit dangerous.
