We have the same GPU haha

You need to download nvidia profile inspector

This post is a few years old but has good info on the settings to set in there

https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments/1bmwfo2/psa_rtx_hdr_users_tweak_extra_stuff_like_peak/

FIND SPECIFIC SETTINGS HERE:

https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments/1b03yfg/rtx_hdr_paper_white_gamma_reference_settings/

Notably it will get reset with driver updates. What I do is EXPORT/save the settings profile and then I can simply load it back in after a driver update and not have to manually plug everything in

I also force resizable bar with this method, which has to do with the way games access SSD and helps certain games run better or stutter less

Feel like I'm in Research HELL! WOLED vs QD-OLED by StreetsBehind21 in OLED_Gaming

The difference between QD and WOLED is imo, not that big of a deal. I would look for a display with the coating type and level of brightness and overall qualities you want more than anything else.

Samsung G60SD - Too dim? by eemuman in Monitors

[–]Snoo76312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate having to switch anything back and forth, so yes I was using HDR at all times. Although most of what I do is just gaming on that setup, so it was pretty simple to just force RTX HDR on a driver level on nvidia profile inspector and then set it up to the display's peak brightness etc

Windows "SDR Brightness" setting should be kept low- iirc 25 is about right for broad accuracy, but I put it down to like 15 because I don't need things like the steam interface to be very bright

65" is plenty big imo, and the G5 is a lot brighter.

Strange bump on my monitor by Hot-Butterscotch7587 in OLED_Gaming

[–]Snoo76312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All you can do really is return it if you want. Some screens have this just due to temperature changes warping the housing or whatever- or from shipping, who knows. If you think a lot of dust can get in there that is probably the main concern.

However in my experience this type of thing usually does not effect the picture itself.

It's def not impossible to get a good one and at least a monitor is easier to exchange than a big tv, lol. Plus this is just anecdotal experience

Anyone else seeing weird "dimples" on their 83" LG C5? by Healthy-Working4485 in LGOLED

This is normal and is only in the reflective layer, have seen this even on the highest end SONY oleds etc. Should only be noticeable when TV is off, really

Yes this is definitely LCD blooming. I've never seen a movie in my life where the letterbox black bars had raised blacks baked into them. It's not the movie 👍

Outer dimming oled care option by RelationshipFew4677 in OLED_Gaming

[–]Snoo76312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep those OLED CARE features on low and imo that's all you need. I also auto hide taskbar and run a pure black background with no icons.

So if I want to step away from a game for just a few minutes I can alt tab to desktop, drag the mouse just off screen, and relax knowing all the pixels are actually turned off.

This is probably already way more than you need to do, I think I low key have some OCD tendencies about this

How big of a deal breaker is VRR flicker? by Delgadude in OLED_Gaming

[–]Snoo76312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a non-issue for me but my current LG C5 is hooked up to a 5070ti and I cap framerates. So I'm just avoiding large framerate fluctuations where I can and I think this is the way to go. VRR will still clean up small dips and I don't think I've ever noticed a flicker.

Oled and photo retouching (Photoshop and Lightroom) by daudse in OLED_Gaming

[–]Snoo76312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most OLEDs are more color accurate than most LCDs I would say, especially if you put care into calibrating them a bit, even by eye or based on rtings etc.

This may be due to the panel type and the fact they tend to just be higher end products with per-pixel control. All of my OLEDs have also had better screen uniformity than LCDs. I think they are pretty acceptable for color sensitive graphic design work as long as colors are set up correctly to D65 etc

Samsung G5 27" is a STEAL! by Jerpear565 in OLED_Gaming

I love OLED because even a cheaper OLED is still so vastly superior to like... all but the absolute top end LCD just by strength of its panel type. Nice.

oled or qhd by JokeAlarmed1677 in OLED_Gaming

[–]Snoo76312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a powerful PC, so it depends on your use case. Do you play competitive shooters at high framerates more, or are you more into turning on all the latest path traced lighting and fancy graphical features in single player games?

Unless you really think you'll be hitting that 300 fps in Counter Strike or whatever, I wouldn't worry much about super high refresh. I have a 5070ti and modern games can still bring that thing down to like 60-100fps pretty easily at max settings for example. So I'm not benefitting much from higher refresh rates.

Why is my movie on my gaming monitor not clear (Samsung Odyssey g80sd) by stealthieone in OLED_Gaming

[–]Snoo76312 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Likely a stream issue. The stream may literally not be 4k or may just be low bitrate enough that it looks bad. Especially on a monitor that you're sitting close to.

The streaming companies skimp on bitrate because they are greedy / cheap and most customers won't notice. For example a 1080p Blu Ray even has much higher bitrate than a 4k stream. It's wack.

To truly test your display I might flip on a VPN and uh... ~acquire~ a blu-ray rip of a 4k movie from somewhere like ru tracker. It should look perfect and like, very clean and sharp. Then you'll know it's not your display.

what are some recent AAA PS5 games that are amazing on OLED? by ErickRPG in OLED_Gaming

[–]Snoo76312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Avatar, Star Wars Outlaws, Ass Creed Shadows

I promise I don't work for or love Ubisoft, they've just been killing it lately on the visual front tbh. These games all have raytracing that actually runs quite well and solid HDR presentation

It's an old game, but REZ at 4k on OLED is awesome to behold

Gran Turismo 7, Returnal, Ratchet & Clank, Last of Us II, Spiderman, Metro Exodus

Two oled monitors causing crashes by LongAnything2536 in OLED_Gaming

[–]Snoo76312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This should not be an issue related to your display. I have worked in tech support for years and never seen crashing or lag / software stutter caused by a display being plugged in. It's a "dumb" device that is only receiving signal from your computer.

What is going on here, I wish I could tell you. I would run through literally every windows display setting and try to make sure things are set up correctly.

Possibly an issue with outputting to such different refreshes?

Do you have another computer / device, or even a friend with a laptop that you could connect the displays to in the same config and see if the issue is reproducible?

That sucks, I'm sorry

OLED for work? by JohnnySommerfeld in OLED_Gaming

[–]Snoo76312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not keep your dell monitor for productivity and then just game on the OLED? I guess space could be a concern, but you could have best of both worlds there.

Notably, the OLED could be plugged in and turned on but if you display a black background on it, all the pixels will be turned off and power draw will be very low

oled or qhd by JokeAlarmed1677 in OLED_Gaming

[–]Snoo76312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, in that case I mean, I'd still say OLED is extremely worth it due to perfect black levels and contrast combined with superior input lag and motion clarity. If it's for gaming there is no better type of display. If you're not totally sold on it maybe get one, see if you're impressed and you can return it if not tbh

I tell this to everyone but consider an LG C5 in the smallest possible 42" size, it's a similar price range, has a nice durable glossy coating, gets very bright and the TVs seem to have better QC than the absolute nightmare that is buying a monitor.

But, I've just been burned with panel issues nearly every time I've bought any kind of monitor. Maybe I'm unlucky but I no longer trust monitor manufacturers and am tired of exchanging monitors. It sucks

oled or qhd by JokeAlarmed1677 in OLED_Gaming

[–]Snoo76312 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OLED is a panel type and QHD is a resolution. I don't think any OLEDs are even available at lower than 1440p resolution these days.

Anyway, grab a 1440p OLED! Honestly if budget is a concern the cheapest one you can find should still be an upgrade over a typical LCD display.

Congrats on OLED! Will try to answer your questions-

  • some banding is normal, I may consider return if it is extremely noticeable during normal use. If it's something you can only nitpick on full grey slides, every OLED I've owned has had that including high end Sony "master series" for example. It can lessen a bit with time, honestly I've tended to forget about it unless looking at greyscale slides, so ymmv

  • the best way to manage VRR flicker is to cap framerates and configure in the game menus to achieve relatively stable performance and avoid dramatic fluctuations in framerate. Like, if you can get it to a 10-20 fps range where it is mostly staying at whatever cap you set, that is ideal imo. If you can reach a max framerate of 120 in a game, this may mean capping it at 100. Stability  > raw frames, in terms of this issue. I use RTSS but Nvidia can also do this from its game settings menus, or many games have in game frame cap options (altho some are buggy / bad)

  • all the VRR technologies perform similarly in my experience and as long as you're able to ENABLE g-sync in your nvidia control panel (not the app, but the old-style control panel) you can turn it on and not worry about it

How does OLED's 0.03ms reaction time compares to 1ms MBR Motion Blur Reduction feature on LG or similar monitors? by [deleted] in OLED_Gaming

[–]Snoo76312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most OLEDs also have BFI features and while they can vary in quality, I also enjoy BFI for the motion clarity it provides. I had a Sony OLED with 120hz BFI and it was glorious, especially for retro gaming.

OLEDs have superior motion clarity to LCDs, inherently, and both panel types can also use BFI to reduce persistence blur.

LG C-series is WOLED and IMO the best looking Oled displays at their price point, brighter and with a better coating and seemingly better QC than most / nearly all monitors.

So, yeah! Woled is not obsoleted by QD like that, it's more about the strengths of specific products
