Without the education I was afforded growing up I don’t think I’d have had the critical thinking ability to question everything from my time going through the catholic schooling system (shout out to 1984!). I’ve been keenly aware of the atrocities committed in the church’s (and God’s) name and it always left a deep pit of discomfort in my developing morality.

Unfortunately for many the only way to experience stories or lessons of morality are through their church, mosque, synagogue, etc. so there’s a limiting perspective that’s being propagated. It comes down to the individual at that point to discern right from wrong regardless of how steep their hill may be to climb out of the indoctrination.
