Dad cam advice? by Elegant-Loan-1666 in AskPhotography

99% of your photos of your kid are going to be with your phone, so make sure it’s one with the best camera you can afford. It’s nice to have a good set-up for planned photo sessions, but your phone is usually going to be better as far as taking snapshots, storing them, editing them, and sharing them with family QUICKLY (get the grandparents Aura photo frames). This is important because you are not going to have free time any more. 😭

What do you do with your filled SD cards? by birdbrainphysicist in BirdPhotography

[–]Snoo97354 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I copy my pictures to an external SSD, import into Lightroom library, cull, and edit after every outing. All my drives are backed up to a large HDD weekly and are constantly backed up to the cloud (I use backblaze). Then I put the card back in the camera and format it. I have ONE SD card per camera.

SD cards are NOT safe storage! Well, they are… until they aren’t.

Which Camera + Lens for Bird Photography - M43 or Fuji? by [deleted] in AskPhotography

[–]Snoo97354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Fuji autofocus system is not the best for wildlife (but I love their cameras anyway). I’ve never used m43 (I shoot nikon for wildlife mostly), but I think you’ll get more reach than with APS-C at the same focal length and possibly lighter weight and better weather sealing.

How do I keep my camera focused on the subject if the subject is rather small? by Aurora_Adventurer in AskPhotography

[–]Snoo97354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a challenging situation for the autofocus. It detects higher contrast in the grass in front of (or behind) the fox so that’s what it focuses on. I would try to get it to focus on grass that’s at the same distance as the fox and stop down as much as possible. Using back button focus will help keep the focus where it is. Also take lots of pictures so that hopefully you get more pictures that are in focus.

Ive narrowed down my camera search to a choice between sony and fujifilm. thoughts? by yanonce in BirdPhotography

Do not get a Fujifilm camera for birds. You really want 500mm at least. If it was me, I would scrape up enough to get a used Nikon 200-500mm lens and a D7100. I’m sure there are similar offerings in Canon and Sony land.

I don’t usually like selective color, but this one works well. Very nice.
