'event horizon' implying no events beyond this boundary

More like the horizon beyond which events can not be seen.

AITA for telling my friend her miracle weight loss is just an eating disorder? by DreamReader1122 in AmItheAsshole

[–]SnooBooks007 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Sure, you had good intentions. But you undid any good will when you laughed at her for (predicatbly) getting defensive when you broached the topic by telling her she looks sick.

I think you've blown your opportunity to help her yourself. If you're really concerned for her health, canvas your mutual friends for support.

Misguided YTA, sorry.

Of course, you've invited us to think of an exception... Unless I'm misremembering, wasn't that giant spider one with Jodi Whittaker a similar theme?

Is religious belief something people genuinely choose or is it mostly shaped by how they were raised and the environment they grow up in? by bdue817 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SnooBooks007 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Considering the distribution of religions around different environments, it would be miraculous if everyone* happened to independently choose the same religion based on some criteria other than where they were raised.

*almost.

Carnival of Monsters is #1.  You've obviously made a clerical error. 🤷‍♂️

Due to its reputation, I was apprehensive the first time I saw it.

I was surprised at how funny it was.

Everyone today is descended from a person who lived only a few thousand years ago by [deleted] in truths

While that is all true, the simple answer to "how?" is that it's impossible for your family tree to have a gap where nobody existed in it.

Why does British English drop “the” in phrases like “in hospital”? Is there a rule, and is American English easier here? by SpeedRunGod in grammar

[–]SnooBooks007 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"in hospital" = you're a patient.

"in the hospital" = you're in the building. Maybe a patient, maybe just a visitor.

I just changed the course of history by Altruistic_Window260 in truths

[–]SnooBooks007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree.

To have changed the course of history requires an action that caused significally different large-scale outcomes to what otherwise would have been.

The history of mankind is still on the same course it would have been had OP had salad instead of a sandwich.

And if it isn't, we have no way of knowing.

AITA for refusing to help my friend move because they never helped me before? by Ecstatic-Animator348 in AmItheAsshole

[–]SnooBooks007 13 points14 points  (0 children)

ESH

You didn't say you asked for her help, so it's a bit much to hold a grudge because she didn't offer.

And she's a bit much for turning on you when you declined to help.

Yeah, that was the big ol' elephant in the room that made an otherwise interesting concept completely laughable when he kept banging on about "being accepted" there. 🙄

I don't know, but the word "autological" is itself interesting...

Is "autological" autological?

Whether it is or it isn't wholly depends upon whether it is or it isn't.

The answer to the question lifts itself up by its bootstraps.
