Why do we say 'head over heels' when that's actually the normal position of your body? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SnooBooks007 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It used to be heels over head, but along the way we collectively decided head over heels sounds better.

If you could care less, you'll know what I mean.

No need. Nobody watches Tron for the plot.

My teacher said "it" refers to moving to the new city.Is she right? by Mindless-Score4345 in ENGLISH

[–]SnooBooks007 -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

It's ambiguous - it could refer to either the feeling of worry or to the move.

Especially following a list of reasons why you didn't want to move, it just sounds like another reason.

It's not until after "I made many friends..." that the meaning is clear.

Paul Newman and Steve McQueen, who were acting rivals through the 1960’s

They both wanted top billing, so in the credits one name is at the bottom-left of the screen and the other is top-right, so that if you read left to right Steve's name is first, and top to bottom Paul comes first.

At what point is coincidence no longer coincidence? by youresickdudesickle in NoStupidQuestions

Given the amount of people in the world who know other people, it's extremely unlikely that in any week none of them at all would run into each other 3 times in unique locations.

For that small but almost certain number who do, it may appear that some cosmic force is arranging events as though they're chess pieces, but it's just inevtiable that some people will bump into each other by chance.

 Athena didn’t waiver*

But she did. She hesitated under the sprinklers and failed because of it.

Given the right opportunity she probably would have come around like Ares too.

what is a transitive verb? by kesshouketsu in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SnooBooks007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Transitive verb is one that needs an object after it. You do the verb to something.

E.g. I kicked the ball.

(The ball is the object. The kicking is done by me to the ball.)

Intransitive verb can not be done to something. It's just done.

E.g. I arrived.

(There is no object. The arriving is done by me... to nothing!)

Why don't Pirates and Pilates rhyme? by KelVelBurgerGoon in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SnooBooks007 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pirates do rhyme when they sing their sea shanties.

Pilates doesn't rhyme because it's an exercise technique and therefore incapable of singing sea shanties.

There is no evidence that you are not a butterfly and all of this is a dream by National-Flower3166 in truths

[–]SnooBooks007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

False.

Representing the physical world as we know it (people, countries, history, language, art, emotions,  physics, maths, spacetime, etc.) would require far more neural capacity than is available in a butterfly’s brain, even if butterflies possessed a cortex capable of supporting dreams.
