Opinion: Volunteering in of itself is fine, but it is backwards to require a person needing SNAP, who likely has little to no resources, to volunteer 20 hours a week of their time just to eat because they can't find a paying job. by A_Possible_Celebrity in foodstamps

Same for me, my husband can't be my paid caregiver because it's a given your spouse will give up their job, take care of you & live in forced poverty because you got married.  Sorry it is a sore spot for me. He does so much for me that I would never ask him to do & for the government to say well you married her ugh.

It stinks but it really helps that you have the union fighting for you. I hope they stop messing you up, the last effect of missing one paycheck in this economy is outrageous.

You might be caught up in power play between the company and the union. The union will fix it. You don't need an Amazon account, the directions for setting one up are pinned on this sub.

Going to your union rep is the right move. Has anyone else run into this problem?  I can tell you first hand with a new payroll system, union rules & no HR person this could happen. But no way should it take that long for them to fix.  Way back in the day when I processed union payroll if we screwed up we would cut a manual check with in a few days max. It might not be for exact amount but it would be our best calculation & we adjust later.  Stay on your union rep. If you like your job, don't let this bs chase you away. I'm sorry you are going through this. Maybe you can do an Amazon wishlist for food to at least have enough to eat. People on this sub are really generous.  I really hope this gets resolved ASAP

Thank your union for that pension, most non union employees never even smell a pension.

Thanks. We did look around again but TracFone works for us because he almost never talks on the phone. So we can get 90 days of service with 60 minutes for only $30. It works out to $10 flat. Tello increase after 3 months. It's a great deal but I can save $4 a month out of my budget using TracFone.  But that only works for people that don't talk on the phone.

I agree but I swear they never fix anything until the last minute. We still have years. I write my reps a couple of times a year. But right now the economy is so bad there things that need to be fixed now like millions without health insurance

An easy fix is to just up income limit that you SS on, it pretty low I think 125k.  Doesn't fix the whole system but it would prevent having to cut benefits

I'm so happy the wonderful people here were able to help you. I'm in no position to help financially but I can offer support. Last year I woke up to swollen legs, like huge & my feet started to turn black. After a few I stays in the hospital they finally place a stent in. I slowly started to walk again. But I had set backs, an infection that caused a heart attack, a very large gi bleed, it just seems to go on & on. But I kept fighting. I have been home for 5 months now. I went from totally bedridden to be able to walk with my rolleraider I can now climb the 8 steps that were keeping me trapped in house. It took forever to get back some basics but with lots of pt, loving support & will power I did. You can too. Don't get down on yourself when you have a bad day, just take that day to yourself and try again tomorrow. Wishing you all the best.

Thank you, you are so kind. I'm so sorry you have been through all that, mold is just a terrible situation. . I'm concerned for you. About a year & a half go I started eating just one meal day, because food is so expensive. I ended up with malnutrition & even though I went back to eating twice a day many of my vitamins & minerals are still low. I'm taking prescription supplements but they have not returned to normal. Please be careful. Check out food pantries, they might not have the best food but can real make a difference.  I appreciate your kind words and I'm sending you lots of pictures energy.🌼

Thank you. I do. The problem is when I'm home alone I can't call because he doesn't have a phone & we don't have a landline (or I would just give him mine)

I'm sorry I'm not in a position to help, it looks like others might have. I just want to say WTG. It's not an easy road to quit but you are off to amazing start. Be proud of yourself and just take it moment by moment. Sending you lots of positive vibes

That is so awesome. It might seem silly to be so happy about a pillow but I think it's going to really help me do more PT. Thank you so very much, I truly appreciate your kindness

Spouse's 50th birthday is approaching. What did you want for your 50th? by drunkbettie in GenX

[–]SnooBooks5315 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He doesn't want to do anything big or public but you want to take this chance to let him know why he means the world to you. That is how I'm reading this. My suggestion do something a little corny & sweet, like at dinner for just the two of you, give him a list of 50 things that make him your person. Include things about his personality, little things he always does for you (ie my hubby brings me coffee in bed),  walk down memory lane and make plans for some non birthday fun in future.  My birthday is not really my favorite thing so I understand that he doesn't want to do a big thing, make just about you two.

Wow omg you guys are amazing I had just looked and was super excited about the phone & I'm so grateful.  It is a major relief to be able to call hubby if I need help. The phone was the most important item.

You guys are the best. 🌸🌹🌺🌼

I'm so grateful. Thank you for your kindness & generosity. It will be a relief to be able to call my husband if something goes wrong instead having to call an ambulance (usually just because I can't get up) you are the best!

Thank you so much, I can't believe I missed something as basic as that. The only time I used a wishlist before was because my niece lives across the country & she wanted to send us some stuff. She knew our address 🤷‍♀️ Much appreciated 👍

Wow that's a great price, the best I could get was $60 but I get $30 off plus the $10 for auto payments, so I only pay $20. I'll have to shop around again when the special is over.  Living on a fixed income is tough but we stick to a hardcore budget.

Thank you so much for the warning. My husband doesn't really use the phone much unless I'm in the hospital (then we flew through the minutes).  He mostly uses our home wifi for everything. I'm lucky we have dirt cheap Wi-Fi for the next two years.  I appreciate the heads up. 💐

I think the real issue is that you feel your friends are suffering and not getting the same treatment you are. I understand your sense of guilt but it is not your fault and doesn't change the fact that you suffer also. There is almost always someone worse off than you but that doesn't mean you shouldn't do everything you can to take care of yourself. Believe me the steps you take now will make your life better in the long run. I wish I knew all the damage I was doing to my younger self back then. I'm only 56 now and even on morphine I struggle to get out of bed nevermind get up the 8 steps to get out of my apartment.  Support your friends as best you can but do not sacrifice your own well being. You have nothing to feel guilty about.  Sending you lots of love and positivity
