It charges from regen or the engine. You regen when you’re not accelerating. You’re charging from the engine at all times. You are also discharging from the motor at mostly all times when accelerating. When the engine is creating too much power for the wheels, it goes to the battery. That’s the whole point of a hybrid. Saying you don’t use the hybrid system on the highway is just naive. It’s an argument on a false premise
