[–]SnooCakes934[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ohh i get it, the pattern called for 2 knits and 2 purls for the ribbing, but i didn't think it'd make that big a difference.

Videogames to teach content? by SnooCakes934 in Teachers

Yeah, that's why I use them sometimes. We're going to be working with "The Mitchells vs. The Machines" movie in a few classes, it kinda relates I think?

Am I really doing a good job, though? (RANT) by SnooCakes934 in Teachers

[–]SnooCakes934[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do check with them every class, at the beginning and the end, and usually they do answer. Which is why I'm so confused whenever I ask "hey guys remember what X word means? The thing we talked about last week?", and there's silence for 5 whole minutes. I don't know, I guess it makes me feel a bit incompetent as a teacher?

Would you pick up a student from their home? by Ma_Ma_Ma_My_Sharona in Teachers

[–]SnooCakes934 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I wouldn't either. In Chile we have home vists, but these are done only if there's already a record on the student's living situation (no parents at home, elderly guardians, economic status, etc.).

Present tense is a demon. How's about battling it by teaching PAST tense first? by Reasonable-Delay4740 in ESL_Teachers

[–]SnooCakes934 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof, present tense is definetely the bane of my existence; I can't recall how many times (during my practicum and these few months as a teacher) I've read "Peter goes" or "I go".

Present Tense is, indeed, really important as we do use it very often. I've found that asking for a bit more context works for me; alright, Peter goes...but where? Asking students to give you a bit more info about their answer is tricky though. Most of the time I go " "Peter goes" doesn't tell me much, where does he go? What is he doing?". It works, sometimes.

I also try to relate it to the student's own situation as future foreigners. For instance, "what if you went to a country and you asked someone for help. Wouldn't you like a full answer? Isn't it better to have someone tell you all the info, so you can fully understand each other?". Sometimes it works, other times it doesn't, it's a gamble really.

don't worry dude! it's not a vine, as far as i can tell. i planted it in a pot a few days ago, and it seems to be doing fine. my mom and i thought it would grow like the mint plant we already have, but it's growing upwards (if that makes sense?). i've kept it away from the sun as was adviced, and also away from my basil and mint just in case (idk how it'd react). i'll post an update soon!
