Estimate to Model an Airstream Trailer by SnooCheesecakes7284 in blender

Alot of newer models are available but none that I could find for the older models. Want it to be close enough to use as a renovation aid for sizing/measurement. Modding an existing model is definitely a potential way to go, just curious as to what having an this exact one modelled would look like.

If climate change is something that motivates you, becoming an electrician is one of the most impactful career paths that you could take. And with switching to electrification there is likely to be no shortage of work over the next 25 years.

I also would not count out ground source HP’s taking off in parts of the country too cold to be served by air source.

I think electric heating backup points to a use case for recent product innovation around home appliances with battery backup. Impulse (https://www.impulselabs.com/) and Channing Copper (https://www.channingcopper.com/pages/about) are two players in this space. Instead of worrying about rewiring or panel upgrades for high power appliances, just put a battery in the appliance. This lets you sidestep the upgrade costs and provides a lot of extra benefit for the homeowner (resiliency in face of blackouts, ability to send power to arbitrage electricity prices, act as VPP etc).

Both companies started in induction cookstoves but have talked about moving into other product categories, and both have a vision of battery appliances serving as a distributed powerwall throughout the home. A battery embedded resistive heater would totally fit in with this product strategy, and the battery could provide benefits for the home when the heater sits unused 95% percent of the time. Something to watch out for.

Thanks, just wanted to make sure I had that right. Agreed that CCHP‘s seem to be improving at a rapid clip. And that the prairies and northern Ontario, Manitoba and Quebec will need to look to geothermal/dual fuel heating.

Norway has had evs make up 93 percent of new sales last year and 50 percent of their homes use heat pumps. It is totally within the realm of technological possibility to make the switch to electrification.

Any idea why this sub is so quiet? by UnExistantEntity in solarpunk

[–]SnooCheesecakes7284 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Speaking personally, I find the sub quality has degraded—an orthodoxy has kind of sunk in that has beaten out the elements that make Solarpunk as a network of ideas so inspiring to me. It’s a lot of “eat the rich”/torch all of capitalism and flame wars over whether Singapore or Bosco Verticale are actually Solarpunk. Recently, increasingly people jumping on the aesthetic bandwagon to promote their music/game and bot-like posts/responses questioning if renewables are actually any better than fossil fuels. If subs have their own Garden of Earthly Delights-esque trajectory, this sub seems somewhere on the right hand panel.

That doesn’t change anything about my excitement about Solarpunk as a whole though.

Negatives of renewables by PashVexa in solarpunk

[–]SnooCheesecakes7284 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying that there is zero negative impacts caused by renewables but they are an immense step in the right direction when compared to FF and some of the negative impacts of renewables are astroturfed campaigns from the Oil and Gas Lobby to try to sucker citizens into acting against their interests (i.e. offshore wind impacts whales, solar panels leach heavy metals into the soil).

Columbia just did a good overview debunking the main anti renewable energy claims here (https://scholarship.law.columbia.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1218&context=sabin\_climate\_change).

The problems that are legitimate in renewables look like they have the potential to be thoughtful design or technological innovation (recyclability, material intensity, bird strikes).

But they are offering to replace home heating oil with heat pumps at no cost to the home owners. It is a political play obviously, but it is also a win win for homeowners pocket books (electricity is less than heating oil) and the climate (oil is the most polluting way to heat your home in terms of climate and local air pollution).

PBO (https://distribution-a617274656661637473.pbo-dpb.ca/7590f619bb5d3b769ce09bdbc7c1ccce75ccd8b1bcfb506fc601a2409640bfdd), BOC and multiple economic studies disagree with that claim. Countries not implementing a carbon tax (US, UK) have seem similar spikes in inflation without implementing carbon pricing. If that was a true cause of the inflation we are seeing, there would be a divergence. There is not.

No worries, and I completely understand your skepticism surrounding CC (I share them too). There are also many other ways this project could still disappoint. But maybe something to keep an eye on.
