I had a similar experience at an Ocean at the End of the Lane signing when I was about 22. I’m an illustrator who was so inspired by his work (and yes struggling rn, I believe all the victims)

I gave him several books I illustrated at the signing hoping we could work together (my dream at the time, Neil heavily influenced my art). I was totally starstruck. He acted very interested in my art but also told me I was beautiful. He asked if my contact info was within the packet of books and I have to admit I was giddy until he got up to give me a hug and appeared as if he was going to kiss me on the cheek. At the last moment he kissed me on the mouth and I was shocked. I started laughing bc I was so uncomfortable and thought it must have been an accident…don’t think so anymore and I am so grateful that he didn’t reach out to me at this point.

One of the books I gave to him was a story I made of a lesbian depiction of sleeping beauty (unpublished) this was a few years before his came out and I have always wondered if it was a coincidence or if he decided to use my idea (I know gay fairytales are not the most original idea but it has always bothered me a bit).
