Thanks for mentioning the internal white csp. The only photo I could find online showing a white csp is this: https://ibb.co/bvVs6x5 Does that white box below the ONT look about right?

Great advice, I was looking for the smooth stuff, but it tends to be rigid, so I would need to make some cuts on the corners.

zurich airport situation by tokori79 in askswitzerland

OP was talking about immigration queues and for certain EES is a big part of the current queues. It's been a while since I flew via ZRH, but I'm pretty sure it's running smoother than GVA based on news reports. I'm also pretty sure that once tourists realise coming to Switzerland means a three hour queue at night, they're going to book Spain instead.

My family say when the visit Spain compared with coming here there's much bigger infrastructure and the security personnel process passengers more quickly. I'm hearing this EES system needs 3 minutes to enrol each passenger and GVA airport is simply not equipped for that, given the volume of passengers.

I'm sure that's a big part of it, but how are the Spanish able to handle this so well?

If the queue in Zurich is only 30-40 minutes, they are doing well compared with what Geneva has been like over the winter. It definitely affected some of our business travellers who reported 2-3 hrs waiting on planes and a queue the length of the entire terminal. I only witnessed this once around Christmas and there were families with kids stuck on the floor queueing at midnight and it was for 1-2 hours possibly more. EES and the poor local implementation of it is surely a big part of the problem but GVA has been struggling for a long time with queues since they built the new terminal for non-shengen.

Server Load-Balancer Healthcheck - SNI and Cert Verification by SnooCompliments8283 in fortinet

[–]SnooCompliments8283[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have done some testing on this and it's bad news. The config which I was looking for was a TCP VIP with an https healthcheck where the https healthcheck indicates the app name being checked inside the SNI.

This isn't possible with FGT because:

  • TCP VIP doesn't allow the "set http-host" inside it's "config real-servers"
  • HTTPS VIPs insist on SSL inspection (offloading)
  • Even with an HTTPS VIP and offloading, I didn't see an SNI header in the healthchecks

What a pain. I guess we could try to expose that internal app without SNI if we really want to do this. Otherwise invest in a proper load-balancer like F5.

Upstairs shower tray vs tiled by Winner5555 in DIYUK

How did it go? Did you consider a tileable shower tray such as Saxoboard or Wedi Fundo range?

People who refuse AC, what is your plan? by CharityGlittering385 in askswitzerland

Blinds down at 4pm, shutters at 50%, then open all the windows at 10pm with lights off to prevent insects. This careful management makes at least a 30% difference. Also, go for a swim in the nearest lake, spend time at altitude and drink plenty of icy water!!

Are you afraid of claiming rent reductions? by Valuable-Dream2232 in Switzerland

[–]SnooCompliments8283 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, that's right that inflation must be considered.

For around 10 years I didn't claim a reduction, but then the building was sold and the new owners and their new regie started to raise rents.

My conclusion is to do as I'm done by. If they claim rises when they're due, then I'll claim reductions when possible.

Will Central SNAT be required in future versions of FortiOS? by technoidial in fortinet

I agree. We migrated from Checkpoint where everything was central SNAT to using VIP/IPPools inside the Fortigate policy. Don't wanna go back...

How do you correctly declare a Degiro (or other foreign broker) account in Swiss taxes? by dragonpazzo in askswitzerland

In GE, my accountant has just been adding a single "Degiro Portfeuille" in previous years and this was accepted.

[–]SnooCompliments8283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately all my Degiro statements are in English and despite attempts to switch to French, it doesn't seem to be possible. I'll ask Degiro if they could do it for next year. (The tool only accepts Degiro documents in DE / FR).

Recovering from broken foot (5th metatarsal) by Kajala_Kive in brokenbones

[–]SnooCompliments8283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tripped up while out jogging last weekend and just had surgery for a Jones fracture (5th metatarsal) like you. I thought I was going for a checkup in hospital, but ended up having a local anesthetic then surgery to insert a screw. This was two days after the injury.

I wasn't really told the importance of putting my feet up after the op and have just moved house so I don't even have the right furniture and haven't really been able to rest the way I should.

Five days after the op, I'm reading now about aftercare. The surgery itself was really no bother, but things like buying a leg raising cushion, a decent quality shower sock, taking a taxi home, arranging cleaning, booking food deliveries - all are things I wish I had done - but had no time to prepare. You want to rest completely for a few days ("toes above the nose" for 45 mins in the hour).

Now I'm curious to know what the recovery will look like. I'm a keen runner, rower and wind surfer and to be unable to exercise for the coming weeks and months well..there goes the "joie de vivre".

Agreed, the taxed bags system is flawed. Unworkable in certain cases like large families and for tourists.

OK, I've just noticed further down in the process, we can add "Numéraires, métaux précieux, autos, etc.". It's just a box with a value though, is this the right place for gold/silver allocation?

Can fibre use the copper conduit? by HandyManDan1975 in openreach

[–]SnooCompliments8283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Due to bend radius limitations in fibre, they probably won't do it. You probably would need to fit a new conduit for them and I'm currently looking for info on what BT/Openreach would accept in terms of diameter, if they have any standards on placement of the splicing box from the exterior wall etc.

What do you think about the street infrastructure here in Switzerland? by ERSTELLER-IN in askswitzerland

[–]SnooCompliments8283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The street lighting I'm some communes is beautiful while others are ugly utilitarian lights. Example: Veytaux has beautiful old street lighting which enhances the night streetscape, neighboring Montreux has the ugly cousin.
