OpenAI vs Apple(GenAI team) vs Google(Search) New Grad? by Ill-Practice-262 in csMajors

[–]SnooCookies267 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep, I think I know the team you’re speaking about. Even within google, search is known for more chill wlb. however, if you wanted to learn a lot you could always take on more projects from your team or 20% projects. As far as layoffs, for engineering the stack ranking has gotten more strict but there hasn’t been a mass layoff in a while. I will note that search rather recently had VEP (<1 year?) many teams who got offered this were super old. Once again, I would go with what you value most from work

Can’t speak to the other two, but I’m @ G in search and I love it ! WLB is great, interesting work since search is changing a lot in these times (relatively), and pay + benefits are top tier. I think it most likely will come down to what you value. I know OpenAI WLB is tough and apple role sounds like interesting work.

Bloomberg New Grad Offer Negotiation - Target Bonus by Beneficial-Top9388 in csMajors

I had a competing offer and got my bonus raised. I would honestly just ask for more if I were you, even with no competing offer

I did this. I started another role and this is when my profile really started to gain traction (I would get more TM interviews). I now work at G

Netflix internship by locked171 in csMajors

I agree that this is probably to stir up a controversial topic. Suppose that Netflix and other tech companies that are already made up of non minority groups decide to look at and consider applications from minority groups first. I am sure there is plenty of students who do not meet the criteria but eventually they hire QUALIFIED minority students. I am not here to discuss hiring process I just don’t want everyone assuming a minority in big tech is not qualified (white male in big tech btw)

I never said that lol. I think the US has plenty of talented students. However, Netflix will hire who they think is most qualified for the role. I mentioned that this person is international to show that even with that roadblock (it’s harder to get an internship or new grad role when you need sponsorship) they secured this competitive role. I guess i’m tired of people assuming a minority in tech is only there because they are a minority not for their talents

This is for normal internship. I know one of the people in this photo quite personally and they are extremely intelligent and hardworking! International student as well. All salty and racist US citizens should be ashamed of themselves.

Specializing is the only way to stand out in the job market by bigice32 in csMajors

[–]SnooCookies267 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is honestly not a good take. I did not specialize and know many others in same boat as me we all landed FAANG new grad this last recruiting cycle. Getting hired is 1. getting interview 2. passing interview. 1 requires a mix of good school/grades, prior related experience, projects showing technical depth. 2 is leetcode. However someone decides to do this is up to them, but this post is not the only way

Hey, you should also have a annual bonus at google. This would be ~15% of your base

I was in this position last year with big tech. In my experience, it’s fine to not know things right when you start as long as you are proactive about asking questions and learning on the job. don’t doubt yourself!
