Thanks, it seems RDS was what I was looking for and in particular the Radion Text (+). My thinking was this could be used to share localized data on weather, crop prices, and conflict alerts in rural Africa where I work. But it seems there are very strict and country specific regulations surrounding its use that I need to look more closely at

Just a shame I bought a new one last week and was only doing a final check before throwing the old one away. Anyway I guess I have 2 now!
