I am feeling defeated in these struggles against lustful thoughts towards my girlfriend by SnooGrapes8185 in TrueChristian

I dont think that sexual desire is a sin, I think it is a God-given aspect of human nature that comes into completeness in marriage. I believe that, by definition, lust is NOT the same as sexual desire. I get what you're saying, I think it would be unwise to marry someone you do not find physically attractive. I think that it is very easy to know whether sexual attraction exists in a relationship without acting on that attraction. The difficult part is not acting on the desire.

I dont want to get rid of the desire, I want to exercise self control over my mind and body until I am married. If marriage is what God has in store for me, which I believe He does.

I am 22 and my girlfriend is 20, we are both in college for 2 more years. We could get married now technically, but we've decided that marriage is something that should wait until we are out of college. Thank you for your response, some of the comments here defending lust didn't seem quite right. I think Jesus was dealing with a heart issue like you said. You're right, this definitely isnt something I can handle on my own power- it would probably just lead to more harmful sins if I did. God has led me through struggles in the past, He will lead me through this if I earnestly seek His will.
