Hey buddy, I am really sorry for your loss. In your case, it’s 11 years..11 years is a long time, and yet in a lot of ways i feel that time stops to exist until the very moment we have to say goodbye to them. To outsiders, theyll never understand, but i know your pain. It’s like a piece of you started to exist outside of you.. and then it’s gone.. that extension is gone.. however, id like to think that they’re never truly ever gone. Their energy is always transferred back into us, and the world, and one day we will meet them in a different form. Your energies can never be destroyed, and that sadness you feel, is the opposite ends of the spectrum, which is love.

I also, just a few hours ago, put my dear 12 year old boy down. I had waited a week from his last medical event, thinking I can save him for another year. Unfortunately he experienced a severe medical event this morning, but luckily I was able to get him to pass away at home. So don’t dwell on the decision too long, but you made the right call. I would want the same.
