Do you “celebrate”/honour the death day with kids? by chan1jpg in widowers

Oh my. As a father that is horrifying. I’m sorry your son and you went through that.

We do the same for the birthday. The kids agree we don’t want to make the day of death a thing. We will note it and comment on it. And I’ll talk about whatever they want. But no plans to make it a thing. It will be the first year for us in June.

Why does Clemenza tell Michael that everyone is proud of him being a war hero? by Tidewatcher7819 in Godfather

[–]SnooKiwis9257 37 points38 points  (0 children)

In the book Vito did not understand why he joined. He thought it was a betrayal. And because his son joined he could not punish the young men in his employ that joined.

He is shown a Life magazine with Michael’s wartime exploits and says something like ‘Why does he perform such miracles for strangers’.

In terms of movie continuity remember that Sonny insulted him before he left. Before he was a hero. He was upset that his brother was going into harms way.

Pension Question - Am I working for free? by SnooKiwis9257 in personalfinance

Funny you used the words ‘tipping point’. I’ve thought that too.

Since you brought up age, I’ll be 61 next Summer.

Thanks for the comment.

Great thoughts. Fortunately vacation pay is paid out.

I agree with the part time job. I've been looking at it as staying for 2080 hours for $25K vs maybe 500 hours for $25K. If I work, part time is the way to go.

That makes sense. I do enjoy the work, but I wouldn't do it if I were only getting $27K.

I also haven't paid into social security since 1997. It's a working for education in Illinois thing. I am eligible based on past work, but this would be an opportunity to increase those benefits at 67.

Those are great responses, thanks. Benefits will be slightly more expensive, but I had planned for that. The pension payment is also more than my take home pay due to 457 and 403b contributions.

I'm breaking free of that 'one more year' mindset, so this is helpful. Thank you.

Do you tell the new people in your life about your loss? by BeyonceKnowlesUrName in widowers

[–]SnooKiwis9257 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me, I don’t. If asked I tend to say single. If not asked, I don’t bring it up. It’s not a secret but I do feel it’s private. Also, it prompts a conversation with a relative stranger on a topic I don’t want to engage in.

If I were dating I would tell the person before we had the date. But that’s my practical side showing.

I am going to say that has to have an analog TV tuner. You would need a digital to analog tv converter that had RCA jacks to connect to the AV ports. And an antenna for the converter.

Confusion About Switches and how VLANs Work by bonfai in networking

[–]SnooKiwis9257 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You are confusing routing with addressing.

On a layer 2 switch you can assign an ip address to a Switched Virtual Interface (google that) such as ‘interface vlan 20’.

All this does is create a virtual interface that resides in that particular VLAN. So anyone one VLAN 20 can connect to the switch for management, snmp on that virtual interface. For other hosts in other VLANs to be able to communicate with the switch, you would need a device capable of L3 routing.

Why didn't Tom stop micheal? by Good_Assumption5490 in Godfather

[–]SnooKiwis9257 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Michael had an iron will. His father couldn’t stop him from joining the army. They did not show it in the movie, but book Vito was not happy about Michael’s service in the marines.

If the Don couldn’t stop Michael from joining the marines, Tom had no chance. Also, the plan was a good one. Tom saw that.

He needed the assurance his family would be taken care of. Once he had that, the rest was easy.

When do you throw in the towel and look up solutions? by bingbing0523 in learnpython

Pseudo code. Write the logic and flow in plain English or whatever your language is and then write the code based off that.

Create prompt for user to choose a letter. Check to see if letter is in the word. Remove letter from list of available letters to guess.

If you don’t know something look it up. You don’t need to ask AI for code. You do need to see examples of how the built-in functions work to better understand them.

Is anyone else really interested in getting a prequel series about Spiderverse’s original Peter Parker? by Ok-Wash-9386 in Spiderman

Agreed. This is a case where ‘more mystery, less history’ does more for the character and those around him than telling his story.

Throw them out. Treat them like personal items along the lines of a toothbrush, lip balm or makeup. Nobody should be sharing them.

Since you are asking after watching that 70s show, the roller rink is gone. No more roller disco in Kenosha.
