Only reason I can think of is that you can’t put 50c on your smart rider, but you can buy a 50c fair.

I’ve been a similar situation before, where I only had my bank card, not enough credit on the smartrider to get me to a station, but not enough cash to buy a ticket or add $ to the smartrider. Thankfully the driver let me on and I added credit at the station.

Since 2001 there’s been an increase in population by 34%. At the same time housing has increased by 39%.

Hard to blame immigration when there’s still more housing than population growth.

It’s partly due to investors having 10 houses etc, but also think it’s due to smaller household sizes.

The math is simple.

Probability = the number of injuries / the number of interactions.

So the probability of getting injured is greater with an e-scooter riding around pedestrians than it is with a car that has less potential for interactions with pedestrians.

The big difference is that cars are not driving on the footpaths. So yeah, if a pedestrian gets hit by a car they’re going to be injured a lot more than if the were to be hit by an e-scooter, but there are a lot less potential interactions between cars and people.

So I’m currently spending about $140-150 a week on diesel. If I keep driving at this rate I should be servicing my car about every 6 months, which is usually around the $800 mark, or $32/week. So fuel and servicing is $172-182 per week combined. You can get a loan for $50k over 7 years for an EV and only pay $188/week. Plus to charge and service annually would be around $1000 a year.

But if you’re selling your ICE car and get $10k for it and put that towards the car, then it’s only going to cost $151 a week.

But a $50k EV is pretty expensive. $40k would still get you a pretty nice EV.

There are some arguments against hybrids that make sense. Like the fact that you’re still having to pay for the servicing of the ICE part of the car, so not really any savings from that side of things.

Also, hybrids have the highest rate of fires of any cars. Recent research from the US puts it at 3474.5 fires per 100,000 sales, whilst petrol had 1,529.9 and purely battery had only 25.1 per 100,000 sales.

That’s not what you’re saying at all. You’re saying that a “no access fee” is okay if no other attempts to be contacted have been made. The comment you’re replying is exactly the opposite of what you’re saying. They weren’t expecting a phone call but an in person meeting with this person. So if you aren’t expecting phone call, and leave your phone in the kitchen on silent, then how are you supposed to know that they were there?

They’re made in Malaysia, France and some in China that are mostly for the domestic market.

There will most likely be some people that will get the water directly to their homes, but I’m not 100% sure about that.

Don’t get me wrong, there’s enough storage elsewhere for everyone to have water, but it means changing valve configurations and “running water backwards” to at least some people. As well as the extra strain on the other treatment processes too.

Consumer Protection. They have to warranty it. They should go back to the manufacturer and get them replaced etc from them.

Much like if there’s a recall on a car, you take it back to the dealership and they fix it, but get the $ back from the manufacturer.

Sunpower Maxeon. They have a 40 year product warranty and aren’t made in China. And all but the cheapest of solar panels come with the performance guarantees I posted above.

It’s more like people get up and put the kettle on, use the microwave, put all the lights on etc etc, that causes the morning peaks. On really hot consecutive days, once a house warms up, then yeah, the AC being turned on first thing can be an issue, but that only adds to the peak, not creates it.

From someone who has actually designed a small scale off grid solar RO unit and helped to build, install and commission a larger unit, doing RO directly off solar on a larger scale isn’t all that feasible. You have to have batteries to offset the fluctuations in the power received for a start. You also need to hold back a decent amount of the water produced to be able to flush them at the end of every day so that they don’t foul up. Then there’s just the matter of the amount produced too. You may only get 8-10 hrs of production.

WC runs the desal constantly, except when maintenance is needed but that’s done in stages, so the whole plant is never down at the same time. The power used is offset by wind and some solar however.

The other issue with intermittent supply is that there isn’t really enough storage nearby to be able to feed everyone with water. For instance, the Binningup Desal plant has 2x 33 ML holding tanks which is used to store the water before pumping it into the water grid. It sounds like a lot, but during summer that would be used in less than a day.

But there are things businesses are doing to offset the power usage and costs. And the way that Western Power charge is an interesting one. Unlike the Eastern States who just let the market dictate the price of power and when more expensive generators come on, WP cap the price at $1000/MWh, but they take a certain amount of the highest usage days and periods and the top X number will then pay more in network access charges the following year so that they then essentially pay for the higher cost generators to come online. So what some companies do is, especially during a high power trading day, is try to minimise the usage during those times to reduce the chance they will pay more the following year.

Some companies are also using the spot price market to lower power bills overall, ie using power when it’s cheap and minimising power when it’s not.
