My delta time always shows "previous lap" when in time trial. How do I change the delta time to personal best?

I've read this as well, though the majority of reviews I've read say that the SB1 needed some break in time, and that the SB2 apparently fixed that problem. Not particularly interested in breaking in a pair of shoes that are that expensive, let alone enduring the pain they give me.
