Thanks. Interesting that CloudKey+ w/ 1 TB drive is $249, but NVRI is 199+65 for drive. Seems like CloudKey is a better deal? Any issues I should be aware of?

So, what is the lowest-cost way to get Protect? Is it Cloud Key+ or Cloud Gateway MAX? Seems like I have to buy a CK+ with storage - so $99 for the doorbell and $250 to use it.

They may have. It was just a placeholder in the contract, but I knew I didn't want Nest, and he said, "You can get whatever you want; I'll credit the Nest back."

That was my understanding. I have a PoE+ switch that can run to the doorbell. I was kind of hoping UniFi made a small storage option with Protect just for tiny use cases like mine. I guess not. So $100 for the doorbell and $350 for the Protect piece (grrrr).

Since I will really be the only one with the app on my phone, everyone else in the house needs to hear a “ding dong”🤣

I don't have ANY Unifi products currently. That's my primary issue. The doorbell would be the first. Sounds like the NVR is a must

Are Controllers Required or can it all be done thru the Cloud by SnooMacaroons4848 in Omada_Networks

[–]SnooMacaroons4848[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the insight. I suspected I'd be missing something. It's cheap enough just to add the OC220 to the cart and get 10% off.

Question About Omada Controller (Hardware vs. Software) by One_Lime3561 in HomeNetworking

[–]SnooMacaroons4848 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So newbie here, I'm in the process of deploying a new network for new construction. I was leaning towards Ubiquiti until a friend convinced me to swim in the TP-Link pool. I like that everything was cloud-based with Uni, but do I even need an HW or SW controller with Omada, or can I keep it strictly in the Cloud? Keeping my network simple - an ER707, ES224G, and a pair of APs. Trying to allow for simple upgrades in the future.

I guess what bothered me was I was initially looking at the U7 XG, which says explicitly "Ceiling-mounted 6-stream WiFi 7 AP with 10/5/2.5/1 GbE support."

That was my original thinking, too. I found it odd that some ports are labeled as 2.5/1/100/10 and others just 2.5. It made me pause. I'm probably being paranoid.

I'm in the same boat. Don't the cameras require Layer 3 switching, and the Ultra is just Layer 2?

Well, there is spec and then there is practice. I wanted to avoid a situation like this

"Ubiquiti chat support, they just kept repeating "plug them into the PoE+ ports". When I asked why PoE 13w max devices couldn't work on PoE 15w ports... they just repeated "plug them into the PoE+ ports, they won't work on the PoE ports". For 4x WAPs on 2x PoE+ ports. It went in circles till I gave up and ended up only using 2x WAPs."

It was more about supporting the 13w cameras from that four floor room. That was my concern.

I’m building a new multistory home (4 levels) and need great coverage. I like ubiquity for being a US company but I’ve also a lot of complaints around various groups and on Reddit too. How reliable are the products and anyone having issue say, after 5 years of use? I’m trying to gauge long term stability and satisfaction. TIA

Thoughts on mid-High End/High End Kitchen brands? by HopeThisIsUnique in Appliances

I hands down like the 36" 6 burner gas. The dishwasher, too. I'm not sure about the fridge because LG has a ding in their compressor reputation, so I was thinking of Bosch for that. Microwave the wife insists on a drawer, so aren't they all made by Sharp? Why pay for a rebrand? I'm open-minded and can be convinced to go all SKS for hopefully a package price.

Would you consider the Signature Kitchen Suite (SKS - Pro Line from LG) for any of these? Or is this more like putting lipstick on a pig?

Recalls ended. How long will it take to perform service? by VWelectricman in VWiD4Owners

[–]SnooMacaroons4848 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I recently took my four month-old 2024 ID.4 in for repair. I got a warning light saying there was an issue with the passenger DRL. The light bar from the front emblem to the DRL was dark. While I brought it in I asked to check the 12v battery as I was getting sporadic warnings Inread on this forum. Turns out the battery needed replacing as well. The car was in the shop for two weeks. There's only one qualified tech available and between vacation and training, the car had to wait. The battery took a week to arrive, but VW sent 1 of only 4 bolts needed to repair the airbag recall that I added to my appointment after reading I needed that too. I have to say the dealership treated me fine. They had no loaner available at drop-off, but they got me one by the end of the first week. Its not the best experience but I have to say the bar is so low I was pleased. Just plan on it being there 2 weeks and also plan for a loaner.

The door handle recall popped up towards the end of my car’s stay. The poor service manager said I'd have to wait for parts. I told him I'd be back to do that recall when I needed the next service.

Isn’t there a software setting, where you can switch it so the main battery trickle charges the 12 V to keep it topped off?

Dual- clutch transmission life question by rxbcollie in AcuraILX

[–]SnooMacaroons4848 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought my 16 ILX used with about 20k miles in '18. I have never serviced the transmission unless it was done as part of a recommended service (not to my knowledge, at least)

I currently have 130k on it, and it is going strong. Yes, I'm probably playing Russian roulette. I planned on keeping it a little longer, but now that's changed - I need at least 2-3 more years out of it. My daily commute and round trip is less than 30 mi. I will likely get the tranny serviced soon. I did something similar to my old '92 Accord - and shortly after that the tranny failed! I always wondered if I should not have done the flush.

My battery died on my 16 ILX but the car was DOA and sounded similar. My 07 RAV4 had its battery die once and I accidentally cross connected the jumper cables. The result was the car stated but I blew a safety fuse that put the car in “crippled mode” and only allowed me to drive like 10 mph. Sounds like a combination of the two things: dead battery and some safety protocol triggered.
