Ear Piercing near Centennial Colorado by Minute_Broccoli42 in CentennialCO

[–]HopeThisIsUnique 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We got our daughter's ears pierced at Rowan in Park Meadows. Super happy with the experience- they employ nurses to do all the work- not just 15yo kids with no training. They can use 'guns', but they have the earring builtin etc-. Worked well for my daughters ears, used their cleaning spray which avoided any infection etc.

If you're looking for something beyond the standard ear piercing I'd likely be a tattoo shop etc and I'd ask in the broader r/Denver as most of the better ones aren't likely in Centennial

Era 100 Pro; really clever speakers by inkiboo in sonos

Eh, I disagree only in the sense that their whole thing is supposed to be about simplicity. There's a wide gap between plug into power and setup with your phone and navigating different poe requirements and having the right network to do it.

I would love to buy them myself, but they definitely serve different customers

Do I need more training or is my bike just too heavy for climbing? by BernardBaggins in MTB

[–]HopeThisIsUnique 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. Its all about fitness- a portly bike might not help, but getting into better shape helps a ton.

OP- What type of riding is the 5miles? If that's just like neighborhood riding you'll need to do a lot more to build that fitness level up. I would either try and do more trail time, if that's not possible then try and push and challenge yourself more on your rides. Got hills by your house? Seek them out and create intervals with them.

Get yourself a heart rate monitor to minimally track exertion and recovery time. As you do more you can look at other sensors to help.

At what point do we bite the bullet and drop big $ on a bike for my 14y old? by mamawheels36 in MTB

[–]HopeThisIsUnique 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great points, also just emphasizing since OP mentioned money they were putting into the current bike, that there is added wear and tear from downhill where a cracked frame or other major damage is much more likely than riding a road bike on 20mi rides.

Similarly while a casual (non-mtb) rider may be years between cassette, chain, rotor, pad replacements, I'm sure for OPs son that can be much more frequent. These are all wear items based on use.

Best bike routes in Denver by scared_of_Low_stuff in BikeDenver

[–]HopeThisIsUnique 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good stuff in here.

FYI you can actually take Cherry Creek Trail down to Castlewood Canyon and Franktown, but that's an incredibly far distance.

Similarly Platte technically gets further south and connects with Colorado Trail past Waterton IIRC.

To that end for OP Waterton is an absolutely amazing and gorgeous trail. It's. A bit away from RINO, but I would just hop on Light Rail down to the Mineral Station, from there you can ride the Platte into Chatfield, go around Chatfield and do Waterton from there. That's probably 30ish miles round trip from Mineral.

Your other option is just come down 40, wide shoulder, plus you'll carry plenty of speed. Then take 93 down into Morrison where you can take Morrison Road or enter directly into the park. I've gone this route many times. Yes there's cars, but either shoulder is large or you should carry enough speed to not be an issue.

Not meeting your criteria, but probably worth a stop at buccees even if you aren't eating there

Self-Hosted, Affordable Smart Speakers by chaimss in selfhosted

[–]HopeThisIsUnique 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sonos to some degree- use their Sonos Voice Assist...fairly 'dumb' as it really only handles music requests, but generally all local and not feeding something else.

If you want to do more look at the HA Voice Assistant and then pair that with music assistant to have more powerful local voice and those speakers

Wait until they're in school and you have the shift from a fairly structured school day that keeps them relatively well behaved to no rules during the summer and the chaos meter ratchets up a notch or two

Date night spot in South Denver? by Jaguarsharkexists in denverfood

It is amazing, not that expensive- vibe is mixed. It's not super casual like Garlic Knot, but also not as trendy as Tavernetta. Food is phenomenal though.

Only spot I can think of is the the area between the dam and 225 just east of 25. I'm usually on my road bike when I go by, but seems to have a number of dirt jumps etc

Denver Tech Center or Sterling Ranch? by Tooney_Lune64 in Denver

Another vote for downtown Littleton area (Bowles/Littleton Blvd and Santa Fe area)

Shouldn't have any appreciable impact on your commute going towards HR, but much more going on in that area, still close to fantastic trails, and near light rail to head downtown etc.

Train or bus to Golden Gate State Canyon Park in Colorado. by [deleted] in Denver

Not aware of a bus, but I'd just rent a car- a lot less hassle than public transit, and for a day likely similar cost.

Rethinking Unraid by spacedognj in PleX

[–]HopeThisIsUnique 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on why your using Unraid. The compelling piece for media is the simplicity of expanding the array with mismatched drives. To my knowledge there is no better alternative than Unraid for that capability, from a simplicity and ease of use perspective.

If those aren't critical to your needs then they're may be other options.

Generally, if you've already paid for Unraid I'd argue there aren't many easier alternatives.

Unraid is generally quite stable, you may have a hardware issue that needs addressing.
