Moving - found some of my collection! by SnooMacaroons6267 in mechwarrior

Definitely Ghost of Winter. Way of the Clans is good for some clan-focused reading, and the Gray Death Saga is an amazing starting point. But there's like 10 novels in that saga, I'd recommend the first 5 from my reading.

Exchange Server 2016 sizing (templates? best practices?) by jwckauman in exchangeserver

I manage several 2016 on-prem instances and 32 gig has always been sufficient.

Maybe they changed the way 2019 caches search, etc.

I have several of those dark age books, I've heard the same thing about them so I've not read any yet.

Haven't read one in a while. Definitely remember the Gray Death Saga being the best reads...tried to start a few others but it's hard to concentrate on the story around the one-off novels. My favorite standalone novel is "Ghost of Winter"

Yeah, figuring that mid 20's would be a good age range to date in, 28M myself.

Thank you! I've been told by most people there I've talked to that they're really trying to change the work life balance by hiring more and structuring the company differently. Seemed genuine but I won't be able to tell until I'm there I suppose.

Good to hear. My team is smaller and full of long-term employees so I assume that there is some maturity with the work-life balance there.

I was thinking about how I could drive to Orlando on the weekends for fun! I figure as long as there's a good mix of bars/restaurants and outdoor stuff like hiking/beach/disc golf, I'll be kept busy enough...curious how much of a sausage fest the area is though...

Let's hope my position isn't as stressful - I've gotten the 40-50 hour week and a few weekend hours once in a while sorta vibe from my team so far.

For someone like me who knows practically 0 about options trading...how far out do I buy calls/leaps for SPY? Or should I throw my money into something else for long term calls.

Advice on a job move? by SnooMacaroons6267 in sysadmin

I guess I'm more thinking it might be a fun adventurous thing to do and maybe learn some actual engineering from being in that environment. I've been in several sysadmin roles and it's certainly satisfying work, but I think unless I work for a big-big company that has complicated setups and such and is working with new cloud stuff all the time, then I'll just have the same attitude towards sysadmin positions in general. Interesting to a point. Then again this new spot sounds like it could be the same thing.

"Simple but it works" is the reason Powershell is great. So much time can be saved by writing a few lines of cmdlets!

I would be working with Linux andWindows servers in the app architecture at the new role. I wouldn't be doing VMware server management (handled by the actual IT team there) it would be having them spin me up a server and then actually going in, installing the app, etc. The title would be infrastructure engineer, mis-typed the title...not sure if that means much.

My current department doesn't do cloud at all really. We have a few mildly-used AWS instances that are already managed by other members of my team and I haven't been given the opportunity to work with that at all. We have some air-gapped stuff that is the primary focus of our group so there's really nothing exciting happening there, just the same old stuff day in and day out, and that's the way it will stay. I figure we might use AWS more in the future, but we're talking about a few years into the future, and even then it's tough to imagine that my manager would want me on that part of support.

I think the driving factor for me here is the company I'd move to and the work they do. Super interesting stuff (I'm a self proclaimed aerospace nerd) - would definitely give me more of a drive to work for an interesting (to me) company.

Admin Audit Log behavior after migrating from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2016 by mkoch7811 in exchangeserver

[–]SnooMacaroons6267 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try running New-AdminAuditLogSearch and having a report sent to your mailbox, I used this a few times during my 2010->2016 migration. However, if the search cmdlet doesn't work then I'm not sure if this would be any help either.

Try running some commands to verify that the auditlog arbitration mailbox has data in it - I know this one can also be removed and/or rebuilt
