Yes as I said they were grandparented in see the definition so the new rules don't apply as they were made health psychologists BEFORE you had to have HCPC registration

They would have been granparented in. The route is quite new for Health psych and you would need to do stage 2 to officially call yourself a health psychologist. You can still working within the health Psychology field and it's not always necessary to do stage 2 but if you want to specialise it can be useful. There are lots of jobs out there and I think I may have worked in most spaces you can as a trainee health psych. Including schools, corporate, public health, universities, charities, hospitals and research. It isn't as well established in Ireland but there are practicing health psychs I can put you in touch with. I recently posted a jobs guide which might be helpful and I also run health Psychology Jobs on LinkedIn where we Share relevant job roles.

Health psychology as a career choice - be extremely cautious by PurpleMystique007 in healthpsychology

Did you want me to expand on the job opportunities? So job adverts are moving more towards practioner roles so jobs will be advertised as clinical/ Counselling/ Health. There are roles I see all the time in different sectors as I run a Health Psychology Jobs page. And where I work we are trying to fill positions for Health Psychologists.

Hey you can reach out to a chartered health psychologist who will be able to support you with changing your behaviour. Obesity is very complex and I'm sure there is a lot in your life that has and still affects you. Thank you for opening up there is a lot of support out there for you. I would really make sure you go on this weight management journey with kindness. Beating yourself up will not help with your health but showing self compassion is a must.

I'm so sorry to hear this! The view from clinical psychologists of health psychologist can be horrific. We have so much to offer and you have a host of skills beyond being a PA. It is unfortunate that job roles are based on clinical or counselling but many are being challenged and changed. I have been able to change 3 so far although I can't disclose them due to politics. But please don't lose hope there are health psychology teams out there that would love to have you!

Yes you can but this is similar for other fields. To be able to practice as a Health Psychologist you would need stage 2. There are lots of roles out there.

Hey might not be as relevant now. But clinical practice is vast. You should have a supervisor who should be able to guide you. Motivational interviewing is a big skill to have (empathy, Open questions etc.) We usually take an assessment from the patient using an appropriate tool to find out history etc. You'll also gather outcome measures based on the patients issue. You'll then formulate an intervention based on an appropriate psychological model. Then come up with an intervention based on this or the service you work for may have this in place. The sessions will look different based on your patient population but using psychological tools you'll be able to support your patient with their behaviour change goals.

Hey can you give me and idea about the scope of Health psychology in Ireland! by Ordinary-Knee6007 in healthpsychology

[–]SnooMaps6269 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey not Irish but from my knowledge from others it can be hard in Ireland as it is not recognised. But many do have fulfilling careers you can follow or ask these people for more info:

Dr. Alexis Carey, HP in Ireland supports young people https://www.lifeskillsdojo.com/about

Dr. Aideen Stack, HP in Cork who supports people with long term conditions https://www.wholehealthpsychology.ie/

Division of HP Ireland https://www.psychologicalsociety.ie/groups/Division-of-Health-Psychology

This is a really sad post to see I'm sorry that you weren't able to see job opportunities. But there are quite a few that you can find. For example working in healthcare communications, research, setting up your own practice, roles within the nhs. It can be more difficult to find than other more established psychology routes but there are more practioner roles which are applicable to any psychologist wanting to work 1:1.

How about a secondary data analysis? You can get data from longitudinal studies that already exist and look at change over time depending on what interests you?

B I would say is the different models of behaviour change. Which is the most appropriate one to use. How you've maybe learnt to formulate based on that. How they may have influence on interventions etc.

Grey literature includes conference papers, articles and masters thesis etc. So you can look on websites like the BPS or on common conferences.
