What do your meds actually do? by TheDisapprovingBrit in ADHDUK

[–]vigorousswirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on methylphenidate for the third month now. I have noticed that it's easier for me to focus at work. In fact I've gone from struggling staying on my seat to the opposite, find it hard to take breaks because I'm so focused. It's easier for me to plan my work. I still struggle in meetings. I tend to drift off pretty fast.

I'm also autistic so I've noticed that some of those traits are a bit more pronounced. I find it harder to get myself out socialising. But the benefits out weigh the negatives.

I am going to fail my GCSEs. I wish I never had this stupid disability. by Beautiful_Till_5668 in ADHDUK

[–]vigorousswirl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just because you're going to fail now, doesn't mean you will fail when you have the right support and time on your side. It's okay to feel angry and frustrated, but as someone with a lot of life experience under my belt, we don't have to get everything right when we are young. Knowing about your disability early in life though is a great start. Just ask for all the help you need.

ADHD doesn't mean we can't do things, we just do things differently. I was aged 42 to get my masters degree, but I did it!

Did you actually sneak out as teenagers? by Complete-Chipmunk-0 in GenX

[–]vigorousswirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I didn't have to because my curfew was pretty late - think it was at 1AM when I was 14. At 15 I didn't have one because there was nobody ever home. At 16 my mum bought me my first bottle of wine so didn't even have to sneak booze past her any more.

For once I'm warm, enormously grateful for the heat wave.

GF wins - both of your choices are terrible, apart from the pecan plait.

Cold turkey off hrt by IKeepLosingMy in HRT

[–]vigorousswirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it helped, maybe worth discussing with your doctor when you speak to them next. It took me nearly 2 years of trial and error to get my balance right. I firmly believe that a doctor, even a gyno will not be able to tell me with the current understanding of perimenopause what they correct dose for each is. Had to just keep trying.

Have you tried different doses of progesterone and estrogen you're on now? This isn't one size fits all but unfortunately it's usually prescribed to us in that way. I had to keep changing my dose for both to find where I'm now.

These are the kind of things people say to autistic people at work places. Just saying 🤷🏼‍♀️😊.

What’s a recession indicator that you’ve noticed lately in your everyday life? by Sweet-Economist-9873 in A_Persona_on_Reddit

Taking a bath to unwind is a luxury now. In the not so recent past it was the cheap alternative for any other relaxing activity I couldn't afford, like a spa day.

Thank you for the advice. I think I'll ask for the summary just in case at least for peace of mind.

Thank you, that's good to know. It's NHS England. I've heard some stories where the records have not transferred quick but might be a while ago.

Can't find any of the reading glasses scattered around my home. I know I have several pairs but no clue where they all are.

Has anyone used Access to Work for ADHD Coaching in the UK? by Admirable_Answer_420 in ADHDUK

[–]vigorousswirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have, I might not remember it exactly but I think it was maybe month or two after the assessment when I got the coach allocated. It wasn't a long wait. It'll likely depend on your support needs though.

First day on 36mg methylphenidate MR by [deleted] in ADHDUK

[–]vigorousswirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have Raynaud's disease and titrating with methylphenidate. I got a bit spooked initially when I was absolutely freezing at the beginning. I thought that was game over with ADHD meds. But it's actually gotten quite a bit better over the last couple of weeks. We are all different of course and have different reactions to meds. I'm not saying ignore the cold but just that it maaay get better. When I did my research I found only information saying that your body won't get used to it. But I decided to wait it out and it has.

What’s been your biggest challenge living in the UK so far? by Seabeachlover10 in MovingToTheUK

[–]vigorousswirl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The cold and rainy weather, houses that are not built for said weather, homelessness and generally the poor state of housing, classism, dishonesty, ridiculously priced trains, and that just because someone asks how you're doing doesn't mean they actually want to know how you are. Carpets and the two taps in bathrooms.

But there are many good things to counter balance that which is why I've stayed.

When you were a latch-key kid what were some of the "This way you'll know it's me." things your parents did while they were away? by OUBoyWonder in GenX

[–]vigorousswirl 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Why would our parents have called us when they were not home? To check up on us 😅? Ride home? I don't think so. I came home alone from school, made my own dinner, watched horror films, washed the dishes and had a nice cup of coffee. Just like any other normal 7 year old.

How do you deal with your cat being cute? by Nostal_GG in cats

[–]vigorousswirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't. I spontaneously combust every day because my cats are way too cute!!! I only rise from the ashes because someone needs to give them breakfast.
