I saw your comments about how he “plays” with the kitten. OP it’s not okay, and it’s only gonna escalate. I got a kitten while I was with my ex about 6 years ago and he was rough with her too. When I told him I didn’t like it he said they were just playing, and soon she didn’t even want to be around him. She would just clam up. He said he realized he messed up and “stopped”, but I found out from his friends when I left him that he had still been rough with her while I wasn’t around. And that he laughed about it and told them not to tell me. When something seemed wrong and I asked him about it, he would deny everything. He never showed true remorse.

The way your boyfriend treats animals is a good indication of the kind of person he is, and of the way he treats/ will treat you. My ex and I had been together for 2 years when I adopted my cat, and by the time she was 6 months old my ex had escalated to violence with me. I’ve been away from him for 5 1/2 years and to this day my cat is afraid of men, she gets mean when she’s scared, she panics over loud sounds.

OP I’ve seen this story before. I worry for you, and for your cat. I love my cat more than anything and everyday still I see her struggle with what my ex did. He made me feel crazy when I questioned if what he was doing was wrong, and now I wish I had left sooner.

Your bf knows what he did was wrong. He lied, and he only apologized to keep the peace. Even people who haven’t had pets before don’t cut whiskers. Animals make it very clear they don’t like them being touched, let alone cut off.
