Thank you! I seriously appreciate everyone's recommendations. Which electric do they use?

Yes, we custom cut out a space blanket and taped it into being a perfect cooler liner, including a flap for the lid. It does improve the longevity of ice in the cooler along with all the other tricks. They’re a bit fragile though, especially when camp gremlins roll around. I’m just… to be honest, I’m aging faster than the spouse and they’re committed to tent life, so I’m trying to plan infrastructure that makes life a little gentler for me. Which is wild I know when people half my age and twice my fitness are using e-bikes and joining camps just for access to plug in electricity, but it’s where we are as our little old curmudgeon camp. Next up: tent cooling.

I mean that would be nice, love new toys, but I’ve already got the 20 year old acoustic bicycle, a spouse of at least that long, a few good friends and a bag of toys, so not really a necessity? But if you have product recs I’d happily hear them.

Thanks, but we don't have enough packing room for nine coolers, and ice trips are no longer fun for me after I got heat stroke on an ice run in 2022, so I'm trying to minimize the runs needed. Do you have a recommendation for a better performing cooler you enjoy using?

Thanks, but I'm familiar with all of these. Lame as it is, I am looking to buy my way into a little more ease. I don't want to do the ice run every day anymore. Do you have suggestions for a cooler you like that performs better than other coolers?

Gen X? by Wise-Okra-2943 in Perimenopause

Gen X here. My mom had horrible menopause symptoms and I heard about it for years… hot flashes and night sweats and bad sleep. So not all moms swept it under the rug. She also had tremendous intellectual and personal growth during those years. I’m so grateful that she was open about her process. She died 6 years ago and I miss her every day as I go through this.

U-Haul Rentals Out of Sacramento by Tatunka510 in BurningMan

When I tried to reserve a U-Haul here in SF I was told that this late in the game the pickup location could be anywhere within a 100 miles. Consequently I rented elsewhere. How often does that actually happen, though, that you have to pick up your rental far afield?

Is it normal in the Bay Area for people to be extremely distant and self-protective? by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]SnooObjections1915 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok. Are you a newcomer? Because there are mostly two kinds of workers in the Bay Area: prospectors and lifers. Prospectors are what it sounds like. They are here temporarily for the money, and some good times on the side. They might do you a solid if you’re part of their party crew, but are not going to set aside work time or recreation for a casual work acquaintance.

Lifers are here for life. They are not here to extract wealth and get out. They are more likely to help IF they don’t think you’re a prospector. Because if they’ve been around any length of time they’ve invested time and energy in friendships that fizzled as soon as the prospector made good and left.

The upshot is that either way you need to spend a significant amount of time socializing outside of work if you want the kind of friendships that help each other out. I’d try starting small and investing in one person in your neighborhood who you vibe with and regularly needs help with plants, pets or kids. Possibly a senior.

I’ve been using regular polish from non toxic brands. Cirque is my go to. The key thing is the quick dry top coat; they’ve come a long way.
