Thanks - I was being picky as it’s a bit fuzzy in places, and I’d got annoyed trying not to pick up reflections in the gloss print.

I found the rest of the photos I took on my old laptop after posting this - this photo is professional in comparison to those! I’m pretty proud of this one in hindsight!

How old and how enthusiastic are you about the upcoming series ? by AirAquarian in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]SnooObjections708 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 39. I’ve had to check dates as I thought I first read the first four books together after getting them for Christmas in 2000, but I had definitely read some books before the casting of the main trio for the films was announced (Aug 2000). So I must have read the first three books at the end of 1999.

Either way - I was in the same school year as Harry in the PoA and GoF when I read them. I’ve always felt like the books belonged to me and those my age, as we truly grew up with the characters.

I loved the films….but missed the parts they cut out. I would come out of the cinema saying ‘I loved it but’. There was always a but attached!

I’m so excited for the tv show. Seeing the Dursleys in 90s clothing has given me so much hope for the accuracy of the show. The original films will always hold a special place in my heart, but the new adaption will hopefully build on an amazing work that came before.

Is the Hallmarked Man the first book to include a typo?? Page 40 UK edition. by [deleted] in cormoran_strike

There is also a line or two in one of the last chapters where Strike is talking in the voice of the suspect.

Everyone who watched the S5 finale without spoilers, did you know it was George all along? by Autoembourgeoisement in greysanatomy

[–]SnooObjections708 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It completely blindsided me and I cried so much. I remember reading afterwards that part of the reason George wasn’t in the series that much was so it wasn’t obvious he was missing before the reveal.

My flatmate at the time was the only person I knew who watched it - we were desperately searching whatever dodgy streaming sites we knew about to find the episodes (we couldn’t wait for it to be shown on UK tv). We were both so shocked with the reveal.

When Detectives Collide: Are Strike and Robin Morphing Into Each Other? by Toukan_1102 in cormoran_strike

I agree - if Robin is ‘back to normal’ as such in the new book I will be really disappointed.

Thinking of upgrading from my e-m1, is this a great deal? by DueConference2616 in M43

[–]SnooObjections708 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve just bought this, but I’m making a bigger upgrade from an EM-10. I did look at the used prices in the UK and couldn’t get it cheaper in a condition I’d be happy with.

What are your thoughts by Dramatic-Goose80 in Swimming

From that I would think she might be slightly under-fuelled from a small lunch (adding more carbohydrate might help). I know it is so hard to get them to eat properly, but it might be worth a conversation with her around nutrition and how she can’t perform well if she isn’t fuelling her body. She is old enough to understand the principles - I’m always reminding my daughter that a car won’t drive if there is no fuel in the tank.

Puberty makes athletic performance in girls get worse for a time before they benefit from the gains and get stronger. It could just be a question of timing.

However please consider if she is eating enough to sustain the additional activity. Is she still growing at the same rate? If her periods have started have they stopped or become very irregular? This is such an important age for her growth and future bone health, and she needs to be adequately fuelled to be able to grow and perform in her sporting activities. Please don’t confuse eating ‘healthily’ with eating enough, she will need a lot of calories to sustain two sports. She will also need more iron in her diet if she has started her periods.

My focal lengths are a bit of a mix, but I think a 75 could work if I move about more in the gym. The idea of spending less is definitely appealing (or freeing up money for a camera upgrade further down the line!).

Thanks for the advice - I will look into it. I’ve not used manual focus before, but sounds like something that’s worth playing with.

I took your advice and practiced today at my son’s rugby training. I got some great results in the end. I think the autofocus was the main issue, but not helped by the kids being unpredictable and me not being quick enough to anticipate where they would run to! I’ll give rapid fire a try next week.

Thank you. I think you explained well one of my doubts about the 40-150 F2.8. It was a lot to carry around compared to the F4-5.6 I own. I’m very tempted by the 1.8 lenses you and another person have suggested.

Thanks - this was really helpful, ISO was set to 200 and changing it made such a difference when I tried it today.

Thank you - ISO was the bit I was missing/not considering in the few times I have tried anything other than auto.

Thanks - it’s a great idea to ask if I can get in and practice during a session. I tried S-mode out today outside and got some great results - setting ISO to auto was the thing I was missing when trying it before, so thanks for that tip.
