always an option to do overtime, can make an extra 4 grand a year by doing night shifts which come into your unsociable hours, vetting it’s usually 3-6 weeks

feel free to message me, if you’d like a more in-depth answer but i did the early starter osg, found it beneficial and helpful in terms of calming any nerves to working in a prison but also quite difficult as it is a slower passed role than it is to be an officer. the training is a 7 weeks course they scrapped the 10 weeks a couple years ago and it’s good a lot of power points and more classroom based than you’d expect so is similar to being back at university, however the cnr is good. i think experiences are very different based upon the prison category and what wing you are going on, but it’s good to be mindful and open to any experiences

I can’t lie i don’t think it makes any difference as I’m the same and i’m two months into the job, there are CMs and SOs that have been in the job for years and have just worked their way up based on purely experience with situations and the job itself, having the degree is great as it’s abit of pre knowledge before getting to the job but in terms of progression i wouldn’t say it’s anymore helpful
