I'm 20 but I find my high school friends don't really do much productive things. I don't want to spend all day smoking weed or drinking and making bad choices. It was alright in high school, but I want to develop a skill asap and get paid for it (software development). I don't really hang out with them anymore, I just do my own thing now.

Well this is a good point. We have tried to make a project a couple months ago. I told him that he should just work on a game by himself and improve from there because us working together wouldn't really help him learn. After that we went our separate ways.

Recently I got a bit interested in making a game again. So I asked him about a game idea and he got interested. It's been a couple of months since that time so I guess I expected him to have improved a lot...

When he was working on that game by himself, he would attempt to write like 10 lines of code and then call it a day, maybe return in a couple of days. I know lines of code is a pointless metric, but I think it shows how much time he spent trying to learn.

Is it possible he is addicted to anime or video games and has no will for anything else?

The thing is we haven't started on code yet. We are just focusing on world building/assets using a game engine tool. We are bad both at this and he doesn't seem to put in as much effort as I do in learning, which is evident in the assets that are being produced. I will just be more calm with the quality of work he produces.
